Paypal Subscription payments

I am creating a membership (subscription) website. I have a basic business account in paypal and was able to create a "subscribe" button for my website. Most buttons allow the payments to be processed without having a paypal account. While I was setting the integration I noticed on the "Website Payment Preferences" on the "Paypal Account Optional" feature, that is only available for Buy Now, Donations, and Shopping Cart buttons, but not for Subscription buttons.

Creating a paypal account and adding funds can be very tedious, invasive and compromising as customers have to enter their bank account information.

Does anyone know of a inexpensive way where I can avoid the pay pal account requirement in order for customers to sign up for recurring "subscription" payments ?

    If you're going to have recurring billing, somebody needs to store the credit card date.

    You don't want to be that somebody. Particularly in the early stages of building a business, it can be cost-prohibitive to implement sufficient security in order to be able to pass the mandatory security audit that the credit card companies require.

    So, in short, even though it can be kind of a pain, it's far better to let PayPal handle that for you at this stage. I think products like Infusionsoft can do recurring subscription payments with their own merchant architecture. There are, of course, other options than PayPal out there, but the investment is fairly substantial. And, ultimately, like I said, somebody needs to store that information.

    As you get started, you just need to make sure that somebody is somebody else.

    You can sign up for Website Payments Pro at PayPal. This lets you create a recurring payment profile and also allow you to use regular Payments Pro processing - the customer can sign up for the subscription with a credit card. The card info is stored by PayPal, so this relieves you of much of the PCI compliance issues.

    There is, however, an approval process for Payments Pro, just like a regular merchant account, and integration into your website is substantially more difficult than adding an HTML button.

    You can translate the above paragraph to "not inexpensive".

    I would recommend setting up your own merchant account and then tying it into one of our gateways. We have reoccurring ability, customer vault, and auto credit card updater feature. Very affordable, gateway is 9.95 a month. Go here http://www.total-apps.com/user_ref450/spages/applynow450.htm
