Should I go for dedicated SSL or free shared SSL? What's the deal?

I have two questions about SSL certificates that I'm hoping you guys will share your experience and thoughts on.

Question 1:
How important is it to have your own dedicated SSL certificate vs. using the free shared SSL certificate? Have any of you guys noticed a loss in customers or orders or any negative side effects at all from using the free shared SSL certificate?

Question 2:
What are some good places to buy SSL certificates and what's a fair price? I've contacted Verisign and their prices are beyond my budget.

Thanks.

P.S. My apologies if these questions have been asked and answered before.

IMO a dedicated server is more reliable
and gives you hand over your competitors

    SHALOM

I've heard good things about StartSSL , but haven't actually gotten around to trying their certificates. As far as I can tell, the startSSL Class 1 certificate is free and you can keep on renewing it without paying.

Instead of free shared SSL, get your very own free SSL certificate from SSL certificate authority which will allow you fully featured free SSL certificate for 30 days. Wish you good luck!

I think the cheapest out there is StartSSL which gives you the first year free and charges you A LOT in the 2nd year...

Godaddy is reasonable but has bad customer service and is a hassle to install.

I would recommend SSL.com certificate because of their customer service and affordable rates. Go for the FREE 90 days trial first and test them out. Then, get their cheapest certificate (DV) every year. Worth it, especially when you go through the process of actually installing the certificate.
