Need help with my Word Press Header

I just joined but I have been reading this forum for a while. I have a word press theme I host. It was fine and then I must have done something that changed it. Now, the header takes up 3/4 of the top. the color is black and when you look at it the top part of the page is all black. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't know that much code, matter of fact all I can do is copy and paste. lol Thanks for any feed back you can offer.

  • Yes, providing a site address would be helpful! As you are new you probably can't post the link, but writing it out like "mysite [dot] com" will suffice.

    Offhand the first suggestion is to simply go to one of your backups and restore the theme from there.

    Otherwise post the link and I'm sure you'll get some help.

  • Let us know if you have this sorted out, it sounds like you have an issue with CSS or some other small thing in the theme,

    • I don't know what CSS is. I think it's something small also, but I don't know code.
  • Ok, I will see what I can do to help out, first, everything happens in the theme, level,

    LIke here, in this screen shot, of a theme, notice the CSS file style.css that controls a lot of what your theme will look like. Once you learn a little about how it works it is really not that hard.



    But to help you I need to see the website, first and then have a look at your theme, I will send you a PM,
  • Id say reinstall the theme you're using first or ask your web host to restore an earlier backup if they have one from a few days or a week ago. I'd normally recommend you backup everything yourself first, but you don't have a lot of content there so it wouldn't be the end of the world if you had to start from square one again.
  • OPen up the style.css file and adjust the code there fore your header.
  • yes, looks like GA, code, check header.php in the appearance tab, use the editor, and you can change it from there, one thing I always try to do is to open a text editor or word pad, and copy all the file you are working on, that way you have a backup in case something bad happens, you can go back and start again.

    But it looks like a quick fix, just add that tag <script and check to make sure you have the right GA code too,

  • OK sorry I've been caught up with the holiday.
    Now, I don't really understand this stuff, so I copied the header.php and it won't let me post it. I took out all the links and still can't do it.
    I hope that's what you all are talking about with the <> symbols.I could email it if anyone wants to take a look.

  • Send me your URL privately. style.css mostly controls the structure of the theme.
  • Hey thanks guys got it fixed. I just disabled the Google Analyticator plug in and it worked. I think I can just paste the analytics code in myself. Wish me luck!
