I am in the early planing stages for what is going to become my biggest web project yet and I am looking for any advice on what really works best in terms of conversion. What should I be focus on during the design stage that will result in working best for the website visitor. I guess what I am trying to say is instead of me making a website that I like the way it looks I want to make what will really work best for the visitor.

    Hi

    1. Easy navigation
    2. No distracting pop ups
    3. Cool looking colors

    Thanks for the input abdulquddus

Pop ups are a definite no no, Easy navigation is a good concept but to general a concept, what one person finds easy another may not so need more detail. Color is very subjective. I think it would be hard to find a universal agreement on color. For example the apple.com site is very easy to get around but I do not like the color scheme at all.

Anyone have any input I would greatly appreciate it.

Do some research, what kind of websites are most popular. Instead of asking us, create a form and ask your potential viewers. What colors do they prefer and so on. But in the end, it still comes down to your decision. If you disagree with the results, would you design a website that you don't like?

Great questions RaulK, I do plan to ask the visitors and track to see what works best but my questions for now have to do with planning it to be better from the start. I would of course make a site that I think is ugly if it works better for the customer, A website owner should not make a site based on what they like or dislike but they should make it for the end user of the site.

  • Don't give your visitors to many choices. Lead them to the sale. Also depends on what your product is. If you are selling graphics your graphics better look pretty damn sexy. If your selling car parts then having a good search system would be key. If I like a product the site design often does not matter - it is secondary.
