If you site is not for commercial use then yes you can use images from google. Or you can purchase them at Stock Photography: Search Royalty Free Images & Photos | iStockphoto.com

  Anyway, AMO992 you will absolutely get sued if you pull images from Google and they are owned by Getty images or any of the big houses. What usually happens is that you will download the image and keep the file name the same and upload it to your site that way with the same file name, it gets indexed in Google and then the owner can find you and get your address and phone, then Getty has software that runs 24 hours a day and finds all the file names of its images in Google and then daily mails out letters to the address on file at your domain name, and will sue the hell out of you because that is their property and they are serious about protecting it.
  
  I like the site that was recommended by the first post response, it is www.morguefile.com. It is all free and has some good stuff.
  
  Then if you use Wordpress, you can use a great free plugin called "Zemanta", it automatically pulls the "Creative Commons images" and is great, although it does put a small bit of code into each post, but for most purposes that is OK and will not hinder your website.
  
  You could go to Flickr and look for a search that filters the "Creative Commons" license, but Zemanta does it very quickly for you based on the content in the post itself.
  
  Finally, stock.xchng - the leading free stock photography site has very low cost images.
  
  I also like Istockphoto because it is owned by Getty and is high quality, but the cost is very low for small web images.

Have a look at morgueFile free photos for creatives by creatives for free images.

I doubt using Google images would be legal even in non commercial sites, you'd need to check the copyright of each image.

I personally just buy my stock images from Stock Photography: Download Free Stock Photos & Royalty Free Images. They also have a wide range of free images - have a look there before buying one, there may just be one that's suitable.

Check the license to see how you can use the photos, this is more important if you've got free photos for your website as it's easier with stock libraries to be sure

Think about what your going to use the image for before you pay for one.. Many free photo sites only charge for the larger image... The smaller images are free.. If the images are for a website only then I would stick with the small free images..

Pulling images from google is ok but be advised they are ALL subject to copyright laws (some have them, some don't) - especially if used for commercial use. I like to get my web development images from Shutterstock.com.

Buy your images it's not worth the risk.

Someone in this thread said you can google them if it's non-commercial, that's a load of BS. Many personal and non-commercial site owners have been sued or threatened into settlements for using stolen images.

If you don't create it yourself, you must license it.

Someone will tell you that you can use creative commons images that are licensed for commercial reuse, but I would strongly advise against it. What is to prevent the copyright holder from later deciding to sell the image to a stock house (think of one that rhymes with "betty")? The new owner could come after you and without a receipt you have no evidence that you have the permission to use the image.

Buy your images and put a print out of the license and receipt into the client file. What are you going to spend on images? Maybe 5% of the site budget?

If you cannot afford licensed images you should raise your prices.

Before making any action, try to know what's the right thing to do. Determine what would be the effect of pulling images from just anywhere on the net. Of course you can't use image with watermarks. There are sites that allows photos to be pulled out.

  What other people on the thread are saying is correct though, it ain't worth the risk of being sued over what could have cost you practically nothing in the first place.

I am agree with what some guys have already told that you can use google images for only non commercial websites and in my point it will be good to see the copyright rules before you use anything. Sometimes images that we get after searching contain watermarks or explicit copyright strings to tell the intention of the owner. Sometimes the ownership can be determined by some information encoded into the image file itself:EXIF information, and you can read it, if it exists by using IRFANVIEW image viewer application.
