Some Interesting Statistics For Designers and Webmasters

I surveyed 400 ebay and craigslist users and came accross some interesting statistics:

Of all the people who have used craigslist and ebay to actually make money, only 8% of them have a website where they sell things. And only 4% use their website in conjunction with their ebay / craigslist campaigns.

46% of these people (the ones who have made money) said that they WOULD consider setting up a website to sell items if it were fast and easy for them.

I realize that setting up an ecommerce site is a little harder than just setting up a WP blog or 5 page website, but you can also charge much.

Yes...I'm not telling you anything you don't know (in terms of how to easy or hard it would be) but that 46% is something you should pay attention to. When you present your services as "a fast and easy way to sell your stuff online...and NOT compete with 500 other ebayers", you give them a vision of being able to sell at a higher price and make a higher profit.

    Respondents were asked this question:

If you were going to start your own website to sell your items, how would you start out?

    Their responses were:

1 - By asking a friend or relative to help me 22.52%
2 - By searching around on the interenet on how to do it 22.79%
3 - By getting a book on how to do it 9.38%
    4 - By just diving in 16.89%
5 - Pay someone else to do it 11.80%

Obviously, that #5 is your easiest target...but the rest of them aren't necessarily out of the running. Almost 23% would try to figure out how to do it by searching online. So you folks who maintain a blog have a very good advantage, if you're entries focus on how to create an e-commerce site.
