Try Dreamweaver, Expression web or KompoZer. Either way you can't go wrong but do your best to learn as much as possible. A lot of the information translates well between all programs but some don't.

Designers and developers mostly use Dreamweaver CS4 as the web editing tool of their choice. Microsoft Expression Web is quite similar to it. The only downside of Dreamweaver is in its complexity. Newbies might find it very frightening.

anyone will agree with me that Dreamweaver is a good for creating websites but i think as a person grows more and more u begin to incorporate many things together to make a stunning website.these days clients want alive websites so together with Dreamweaver cs3 i use flash,fireworks,Photoshop.Dreamweaver is cool since you can build a whole site on fireworks cs and just export it to Dreamweaver for changes and also you can do that with flash cs.right now Dreamweaver is reliable and can work for a pro or a beginner.

Don't use any software that offers ready-made stuff, please! These things are ruining the web design business and the web as a whole.. If you want to get into web design, get your hands dirty and start learning html/css/javascript. Knowing how to code by hand is invaluable. Choosing a coding app is down to personal preference, I use Notepad++ and sometimes Dreamweaver. As for design, depends on what you're designing, usually the answer is Photoshop/Illustrator/Corel Draw. Though learning how to design profesionally takes years, a lot of blood sweat and tears and some love and dedication too.

I use Artisteer 3 now and Dreamweaver CS5 if I want to edit code and sometimes Expression Web 4 as it uses HTML 5 doc type and CSS 3 which is very handy.
If its a big job Photoshop CS5 and Dreamweaver..

Microsoft Visual Studio Express is as good a development platform as you will ever find for any price and it's free. Though if I'm not mistaken I think Microsoft has changed up the download options and now they are offering Visual Web Developer Express. It's still free and still as good as any you can find.

I used Dreamweaver for years and I'll never go back to it.

Dreamweaver can do absolutely anything. But I'm referring to Dreamweaver 8. Anything after, and they've depreciated the old HTML coding. Now it's all CSS based.

Other than that, XSITEPRO is actually ultra-recommended. It's got absolutely everything a designer needs to create any sort of website. Has inbuilt widgets like video creator, audio creator, RSS feed reader, etc... The type of stuff you'd otherwise spend ages incorporating inside Dreamweaver. IT's done in seconds in XsitePro.

So ideally 2 of them, plus Photoshop.

I recently bought Dreamweaver CS5.5 and I already feel like I bought the milk but got the cow for later use as well. I discover new things about it every day, and the best thing about it is that there are so many free tutorials out there, ready for you to download and soak up new mad skills.

If you want/need what is free, though, the name PageBreeze keeps popping up quite often, but I don't have any experience with it.

XSitePro and Artisteer make getting up and running easy.
Dreamweaver is extremely powerful but takes a bit of knowledge and "stick-to-it-veness" - i.e., you have to stick with it to realize its power.
Im surprised no one has mentioned using photoshop with sitegrinder, that is if you are up for spending a bit of money - sitegrinder essentially takes photoshop designs and converts them to html sites.

I have to say that, even though, I use Dreamweaver out of habit - there is no real need for it. Back in the day, you could "see" what your design would look like as you built the code. This is not really true in the age of CSS. I really just use it now because it has a built in code editor and ftp in one.... probably not worth the expense and learning curve for a newbie.

Photoshop on the otherhand is a MUST. If you learn one program - learn photoshop!

My vote would have to be for Artisteer and xSitePro as the easiest to use. I use Artisteer for Wordpress themes and xSitePro for more simple html sites.

For tweaks, it is Expression Web, but that program is almost as high a learning curve as Dreamweaver, and my preference is for more intuitive user interfaces.

Hello StevNite,

Well it depends on what did meant by "best web design software"

If you meant the best software where to design (just design and nothing else) then the best should be Adobe Photoshop

If you meant the best software where to design and code it then I suppose Adobe Dreamweaver

Note: If you want to create a logo for you website you should use Adobe Illustrator

I would suggest you to create websites this way.
1. Brain storm what could be the name of your website (domain etc.)
2. Make like 30+ sketches for the logo and ask people which would look the best from them
3. Create your logo
4. Make 10 - 20 sketches for website design (wireframing)
Note: this helps ux (user experience) for your website
5. Make a nice ui (user interface) design based on your best sketch for web design (4. step)
6. Code it using notepad or there was something like notepad+ which is meant for website coding and much more
7. And then upload it to your hosing account and set it up for your website and you are done

So yeah I hope this helps you.
