Help me, please...

I can't see my thumbnail images on my home page anymore. I keep adding the custom field name (thumb) and value (image URL) to my post, but it still does not display on my home page.

If you don't mind, please take a look at my website:

worldofwarcraftdungeon.com

Sorry, I tried to add a hyperlink, but I don't have enough posts yet.

The images appeared previously, then I had the site/files transferred to my host, after which they disappeared. I couldn't get the person who transferred the site/files to help me after the transfer (sadly).

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Fred

    Hi Fred -

I looked at your source code and saw the URL's for your images as for example .com/images/11.jpg and tried to bring them up in my browser, no luck. Just get a 404 not found message.

Just in case I also tried .com/wp-content/themes/lifestyle_40/images/11.jpg with didn't display anything. That's where you have your favicon image that does show in the upper left of my browser window.

    http://www.worldofwarcraftdungeon.co...es/favicon.ico

I did this by right clicking on your page and the selecting "view page source" and searching for your image links.

Without actually going into your account and looking around with my FTP client I can't see if the folder with your images is there, in the wrong place, or missing.

If you want me to I will be happy to check it out for you but I'll need your log in details. If you do let me know. You don't have many posts so I'm not sure if you can PM me. You can try by just left clicking on my user name and select "Send me a PM". If you can't PM, reply here and I'll shoot a PM with my email address. Just let me know. I'll be in and out of the forum all day.

      Hi John,

      Thank you for your response.

I right-clicked on where my thumbnail image is supposed to be, clicked on 'inspect element' and the inspection revealed an image folder that does NOT exist in my directory. Something is awry for sure. But even when I try to direct the image to a folder that does exist, still nothing.

Please send me your email address.

      Regards,

      Fred

Really from what I see there are only a few things that can be possible wrong, your image folder location, or your images are not titled correctly in your image folder.

I cant really think of anything else that would be wrong. Unless there is some css coding issue that you have tied to them, considering they each have an assigned class.

Did you ever figure this out?

The page is showing your other images, such as your repeating background nav bar ect.......

      Hi Steve,

      Thank you for your reply.

I right-clicked where the thumbnail image is supposed to be and then clicked on "Inspect Element". It displays an image folder that does not exist on my file directory. Although I've added an image file and linked the thumbnail image url to this location, it still will not load the image. In addition, it doesn't work when I add it in the Custom Field section either.

I have the Revolution theme on another site and the process is similar, so I don't think I'm doing something wrong. But, you never know.

To answer your question, no, I haven't figured it out yet.

      Thank you,

Well if I could get access to where your files are I can fix it for you I believe, I may need access to the actual wordpress login also.

Basically what I need to do is to be able to see the folders and how they are organized and what is what and what is where.

        All the best,
        Steve

I will pm you my skype username and my email.

Hey guys, I got someones email, but it only had the login info for the wordpress site, which does not help me, because I have to be able to get to the actual folders on the hosting account, if you do not trust I understand, but this is the only way I can help.

Maybe you can set up special login through your hosting site for a webmaster. Not that I am a webmaster, but most hosting sites allow you to set-up a seperate login and allow you to make sure that someone can only have access to certain files and in this case it would be all the files associated with this domain and wordpress theme.

      All the best,
      Steve

    Hi Steve

I believe you have the email that came to me and I replied back to Fred.

Fred, What is needed is the username and password you use to log in to your hosting account, i.e. for FTP access

If you what to create a new separate FTP account you can do it like this.

I checked out your hosting company so I know you have cPanel.
So login into your cPanel and go down until you see the Files section.
    Click on FTP Accounts
Enter a Username (anything will do)
    Enter a password
    Enter it again
    -- next is directory
    use - /public_html/
quota - default is unlimited but it doesn't matter leave it unlimited

that should be all you need to do. It's ready to go and after you can delete it or just change the password and keep it for a just in case moment.

    Hi Fred

That's fine. It sounds like he knows what to look for so I don't have a problem with it. Just want to solve the mystery and get your site straightened out. I'm just hoping the images are there. I have to crash out for a few hours but I'll be around later this afternoon. See if Steve has found out anything by then.

With your theme I think it has 2 themes working as one, Genesis in like the foundation and Lifestyle is what dresses it up. Both will look like separate themes in the themes folder and each has it's own folders and files. The Lifestyle theme should be active and when you add stuff it gets added to the Lifestyle folders not Genesis. It just may be that the images folder was put in the Genesis folder instead of the Lifestyle folder. But viewing the page source your image links are not pointing that far in they say .com/images/11.jpg which means as soon as you enter your top level folder for this site there should be a folder named "images". I'll check back after I catch a few Z's.

    Ok Steve

If your going to search by entering cPanel and using the file manager just use worldofwarcraftdungeon.com/cpanel/ the login with present its self

If you entering via ftp just enter worldofwarcraftdungeon.com for the site and enter the username and password click go.

Either way should get you there. I prefer ftp but that's what I use the most.

Tried the cpanel couldnt get in, I dont really use ftp. Dont laugh. I just upload directly to my own files. Since I use Godaddy and they have their own ftp program built in that I use if I do use ftp.

I am familar with cpanel, but I believe the passwords Fred gave me are only for the ftp account. So no use to me.......

I will be on and off today, I am watching my 2 year old, so can't guarantee when I get to it but will look at it for sure, as long as he is cooperating... lol....

Hey Fred, from what I can see the images that you want to display are not in the images folder. Do you have them laying around on your computer drive somewhere? If so, can you send them to me via my email that you have been using?

If what I am seeing, actually not seeing, is the case, then all we need to do is reload your image files back into the image folder for the theme you are using.

Sorry I just got back I had missed a lot of sleep this week and once I got to sleep the alarms I had set didn't wake me up. Any way where do we stand at this point.

So Steve, you found the images folder but the images are not there.

Fred, do you have a copy of the images on you computer, I'm thinking that because some one else moved the site to your hosting you might not have them. I saw above in your first comment that the person that transferred the site wouldn't help.
Was the person that transferred the blog to your hosting the same person you got the blog from. If not person you got the blog from may still have a copy of the images and may be willing to give them to you.

    Update:
Fred, I just sent you some info via email I didn't want to post here

So, what is the existing image url you are adding to the custom key value field?

Because you said you uploaded the image(s) to your host, so if you put the right path/url into the custom key value... it should work.

      Greetings,

That's just it... I've put the correct Image URL, but it does NOT show up on my home page as a thumbnail image next to the title of my article. Oddly enough, it''ll show up embedded in the article itself - when I click the hyperlink to the full article.

One of the image URLs is:

      worldofwarcraftdungeon $ com/wp-content/themes/lifestyle_40/images/paladin.jpg

I added the '$' symbol in lieu of the "." before 'com' because I can't post links yet. Six (6) more posts and then I'll be able to.

I've uploaded the images to the Image folder in the Lifestyle Theme folder. It's truly bizarre!

    Not really bizarre...

Whatever you did, something over-writes your path. Maybe your theme???

Why don't you ever look at the source of your page?
It is looking for the image here:
    HTML Code:
    <a href="http://www.worldofwarcraftdungeon.com/136/why-you-should-level-paladin-in-world-of-warcraft/" rel="bookmark"><img class="thumb" src="/images/1.jpg" alt="Why You Should Level Paladin in World of Warcraft" /></a>

Searching for the image at /images/1jpg.

The / at the beginning means = go to the root and find the images folder.

EDIT. And no, not even in the post is the image there:

      Hello,

I did look at the source code initially and I couldn't find an 'images' folder. As I mentioned in my previous post... everything was working great until the transfer, so I can only assume that the image folder didn't get transferred. Nevertheless, when I enter the new image URL in the field, one would assume it would update like it's supposed to.

      Thank you,

We can assume that... however, there is a chance that something in the theme's functions.php over-rides it.

Are there any specific instructions about how to use the theme? Also, they should have some kind of support forum where you could get a faster answer instead of making us to guess

          Hello,

I purchased the blog via Flippa, which included the Lifestyle 4.0 theme. I tried to access their support forum, but it would not let me without a valid receipt/proof of purchase. Thus, I would be forced to update/purchase their newest version in order to gain access.

I've sent an email to StudioPress inquiring about other options since I purchased the site (and theme) in good conscience and under the assumption the seller had permission to sell/give me the theme.

          Thank you,

Did you upload the images to your image folder on your hosting account?

If so, did you upload all the images in question and are the named properly?

I tried to login back in to the cpanel, but to no avail?

It really cant be that difficult of an issue, as long as the images are in the correct folder and the path is correct to that folder it should work.

I have worked with this theme before and it looks to me like you have the wrong url in the custom field as it points to images that are not there. Try uploading the image again and use the url that is given in the Wordpress upload box. If this doesn´t work there may be a problem with your thumb.php.

            Hi,

In the articles where I have actually uploaded a new image URL, the custom field is set up properly (with the correct image URL). For example, the first article under the Paladin heading, Why You Should Level Paladin in World of Warcraft, includes a custom thumb field with the following image URL:

            http://worldofwarcraftdungeon.com/wp...es/paladin.jpg

The image has been uploaded and is viewable, yet no thumbnail image.

If it is my thumb.php, how does one get that fixed?

            Thank you,

            Fred

    Hi Fred -

I see you haven't got any images showing yet. What's the poop on this.

I just sent you 2 emails. One with some search URLs that have images you can use without getting in trouble. They have use rights. The 2nd I found some posts from the suspended website of the person you got your site from. I saved them and sent them to you to read. They are talking about this image problem and what they say the fix is. Is it valid info, I don't know, but I thought I'd pass it on to you.

I just sent you another email about the tools/cache 777 permissions and some code I added that was missing. I commented in the code to show the change and sent you documentation of what I did.
