How can I get a vertical line when writing?

I found something that said shift plus 0166, i think it was, but that gets me a two vertical lines one on top of the other. I'm looking for a pure vertical line for spinning and I dont know how seeing as I dont have backslash on my keyboard.

i desperately need it for spinning... i cant be copying and pasting this all the time...

Why was this post of mine erased without explanation? Its a perfectly legitimate troubleshooter that I've been hovering over for days. IF you dont believe me, moderator, try google. It just isnt there.

      it's the button directly below the backspace key. Just as somacorellc said, it is shift+\

      Or, alt+0124 also works if your keyboard really lacks this button. (I'm guessing you're on a laptop). You could also copy the character and then ctrl-v paste it every time you need to 'type' it.

        yes, my keyboards an idiot, it has forward slash TWICE and they got rid of it to make space for ç below, a french northern spanish need...
