Looking for opinions about flash design elements hurting serp

Couple years back I was told, "never put any flash on your site because the bots can't or won't enter to review." But what's going on today? There's so much flash - swf, flv, etc. on sites now I would think the search engines have moved on.
I don't mean the completely all-flash sites, I just mean using flash elements on the page. We have a new flash header on our Joomla home page along with other extensions and players, etc. throughout the website.
What's your opinion about this?
Thanks so much, Warriors!

Typically, the advice you have heard about flash would only pertain to a website that was done completely in flash, not just part.

If your website only has a flash header or something and the rest is joomla or WP or any other CMS or even just HTML then you are fine.

Adobes going the distance (or so they say) to better search engine indexing of Flash contents. At a conference recently they said if your site uses all Flash, or if content areas are displayed using Flash, you can embed an accompanying text file.

    Also: (old news)
Now that we've launched our Flash indexing algorithm, web designers can expect improved visibility of their published Flash content, and you can expect to see better search results and snippets.
