Question about google stars?

Just a quickie, firstly happy new year !
Hope you had a great time and that you are ready for a great year online.
Secondly DO YOU know what the yellow stars represent next to the placements when you search on google?
If you do a search in google for anything and get a list of websites up for that search ive noticed that the sites have stars next to them?
What are they and how do we use them?
