Web Images Color Trouble

Hi,

Whenever I save images for the web they seem to loose the richness of their color. I've not noticed this until working on a particular project that involves resizing and preparing images of artwork for a website.

The images are in sRGB color profile and I am "saving for web and devices" with ICC checked and optimization at 70. Still, the images look a bit faded overall. Is there anything else that I can do to retain the color?

Thanks!

It might just be on your monitor. I'd check the images on another computer. I typically optimize much lower for web - 50 to 60 and don't have that problem.

No matter what they're going to look a little faded compared to the originals. Jpeg is a lossy format after all.

You could try saving as a .gif if it's a simpler image like buttons and web design elements - doesn't work very well with photos though.

unless you are working with original artwork ( psd with original layers for example) you will technically always see this degeneration. as the end result of your work now is resulting in what i would refer to as third generation image. you are saving out a version of a saved file. so the degeneration has happened twice to the original.
if the image resizing is mission critical ( like say for a photographer or something ) try getting originals.
if you are dealing with originals, perhaps slightly tweeking the hue or saturation a little higher to account for the down grading that happens when you save out.

Export it for the web in png format. Forget about jpg as its to big in size when exporting it with 100% quality. In png 24 format colors will be "perfect" but if file size is to big for you that way, use png 8 format to export images.
