Hey guys, new here(first post). I've been reading a bit about making money online over the past couple years (I'm only 20) and just had a question about making websites. It seems like you need to know a lot of technical stuff for making a website (html, coding, etc...) and I was just wondering what you would recommend to me for learning this the quickest. Any programs out there or websites that teach you how to build a website? Or do you have any other recommendations? Thanks alot,

Cailan

    • You may want to consider blogging with wordpress or blogger. That way you can at least get started while you learn to make your own sites.

If you don't know html codes, it is better for you to use blogger and wordpress. You can integrate wordpress into your site.

I second that. I'm a member and have been for about 5 months now. But basically, all you really need is a one page website to start your internet marketing career.

      Find a niche.

Get a free offer to give away to that niche.

Put together a simple squeeze page.

Drive traffic to that page with articles and solo ads.

Build your list (you should be able to get 100 subscribers a month modestly)

Put together a good auto responder series with Aweber

Stay in contact with your list once every 4 days

Once a month promote an affiliate offer to your list. (Do this until you create your own product)

      Then...lather, rinse, repeat.

      Good luck dude.

      Later,

      Shane

The majority of people start with a wordpress blog, it's the most popular CMS (Content Management System) that allows you to add content while rarely needing to touch html/php code. Ideally you have your own $10/yr domain and $8/mo hosting.

One can start with free services like Wordpress.com or (Googles) blogger.com and setup a blog for free than can be used for marketing purposes. Blogger allows you to assign your own custom domain name: myPlace.com, instead of their provided subdomain: myPlace.blogspot.com at no charge, other than your $10/yr registration cost.

Custom themes allow a wordpress site to look more like a magazine or store, instead of a blog.

There's plenty of free wordpress tutorial material on the web.

I'd suggest wordpress as well, I started with wordpress and found this the easiest way. There's so many themes/templates out there that you don't need to learn much html etc. at all if any and there's many free tutorials for wordpress too.

I'd start with wordpress. It's extremely easy to set up, awesome documentation and tutorials all over the web, and tons of plugins to make the hard work easy.

There's a lot to learn, but if you're willing to put in the time, wordpress is super simple.

I've been working hard at IM the past month or so, and I can have a wordpress site live in about 10 minutes now, depending on the content. So once you get the hang of it, you'll be set.

I also use both of these. They are both very easy to use and they are very much tailored to making money online. Yes you do have to pay for XSitePro and XHeader pro but they are very much suited to your needs and your investment will only be a small one in the long run once you start making money off the back of the websites you have created using them. Also because they are so easy to use you can get affiliate websites set up very quickly meaning your not spending hours and hours coding a site but you can still get a nice looking site up that can start making money straight away. XSitePro has been designed with affiliate marketers in mind and so contains a lot of useful tools for including things like Amazon Affiliate Links, Google AdSense and also Clickbank advertising.

Try with wordpress which is a easy platform to make some quick website without knowing any tech stuff. If you want to go further then I would recommend using EZ Generator which is a great software for making high quality professional website. I myself a complete non-techie uses both

I agree with the members here who recommend wordpress, but you should go for a self-hosted wordpress site rather than one on wordpress.com so that you have full control over your site.

Hi man, wordpress requires some technical knowledge, a domain name and web hosting, so if you are very new to web publishing, then leave it there for the next level.

For now start off with blogger.com. It's free and it is very easy. You can call it a trial pack in IM and the world of web publishing. You can create posts and pages, add content and learn how things work; you can also self learn some HTML while working on it.

Later when you are ready to take things seriously, then go for wordpress.org. I know so many people have recommended WP and I too am a strong supporter, but for a newbie in the IM, all the options will confuse you a lot; WP has like hundreds of options that is ideal for a "easy" level beginner, but not for the "novice"

To learn, just head over to YouTube.com and search for the topic you want to learn, you will find many related videos.

Before anything else, watch this video and feel free to ask questions in this forum.

Actually - so it wordpress. The hosted WP is very much like Blogger. You only need hosting and domain name if you self host, which is just an option and not a requirement.

Welcome to the forum, Cailan. No technical knowledge is needed to create a website if you're using Wordpress or Blogger. You could also build a static html site using a html website editor that is almost as easy to use as Microsoft Word. It all really depends on what type of website you're planning on building.

I recommend wordpress like all the rest.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of the themes on wordpress you can use are actually coded by wordpress enthusiasts.

So they aren't always the most stable - You should stick with the TwentyTen theme or a child theme of it.

I've installed a plugin that said it was compatible and it crashed my entire site...
That reminds me.. the first plugin you download should be something that backs up your wordpress site.

You brought up a good point there, James. When using a free Wordpress theme, there are no guarantees that it'll run smoothly and trouble free, since just about anyone can code and upload a free Wordpress theme if they want to. Of course, the free default Twenty Ten Wordpress theme has probably been tested extensively in various scenarios, and would probably be the first theme I'd recommend you use.

There are also paid themes out there that are more professional in both appearance and functionality, and allow more flexibility and options when it comes to the configuration and layout of your site. That is something you'd definitely want to look into, especially if you're building Wordpress sites for clients.

as everyone else has said WordPress is your friend when first starting! It comes loaded with different plugins, themes, and is just plain and simple to use!

Themes: Want A nice design? Just look around on the net for a premium WordPress theme. Still not enough? Find a base theme and hire someone to customize and for $100 you could have a site that looks amazing!

Plugins: Plugins are great, and they exist for pretty much anything you can think of. If you want your website to auto post to twitter, facebook, or any other social bookmark you can. If you want an easy way to SEO your website page by page you can! If you want to monitor visitors you can! If you want special banner placements you can!

Put plain and simple, WordPress is a great choice for beginners because it allows you to make a very professional looking site for little to no money!

Go to w3schools to learn html and css its free and makes learning how to make a website a little easier. Use dreamweaver to make your website it is a great tool. You don't need to know any code at first, but with dreamweaver you will slowly learn the ins and outs of html. You should get photoshop to create headers and backgrounds for your websites.

Welcome to the forum bro. It depends what your looking for here - if you want to actually self study yourself Web Design and HTML coding and CSS styling - then give me a shout bro, I'm a Web Designer and Promotional Graphic Designer by nature, and I'm only 21 myself so it would be good to educate you.

If your planning on selling products, honestly: there is money in every effort - its just what you put into it what counts.

    Meaning what keywords.

    Meaning what content.

Meaning what good ideas ( like adding games to your blogs, or aiming your adverts at a cross-market like "health" ads aimed at "gamers" )

Meaning how many people you can get to your money makers, and how many of them you can make money off.

To be honest - whatever the platform, its more about the other factors.

For example - I developed an amazing template to use on a free blogger - it fits in perfectly with a certain sales copy style I'm using on it, and it does AMAZINGLY well - Seriously I'm impressed with it myself - the reason all down to the Sales Copy and the Entire Presentation Of It All!

You can choose either - Wordpress has a great many benefits, and there is massive ammounts to be made on popular content like News - Creating a "Latest News" type blog in any hot niche will make you money. Wordpress has all the capability's of Widget and Custom Scripts to tune everything to perform better, and If you master it - Nice Presentation, Up-to-date News and Product Reviews, Free Give-Aways, Free to enter competitions and so on - along with good affiliate ads and even an commission based online store or drop shipping operated online store - you have Mastered the Art of Blogging.

The key with blogging is to keep providing quality content. Keep the presentation in immaculate condition and keep it fun and cheerful.

Websites are just as good though - but with websites it is all about Function.

The websites which really excel are usually the Websites with A LOT of quality information on them. Think of a Cheats Website for a Games Console as an example. Or a Wikipedia or a forum.

It IS all about the Information. (but at the same time its about everything else, don't ever forget that and you'll certainly be successful - presentation, character, flow, detail, images etc.)

Websites which Offer Video Hosting and Online Video Display are making us a killing - if you have the time and money to invest in this area - then speak to my partner Hakim, he's also using this account.

In all honesty - your question is about a choice of "platform" - the plain and simple truth is: it doesn't matter, but they have there differences.

Give me a PM and keep it touch because I'm busy in the Lab compiling my system into book form as we speak - it will be finished in a week or two, and it explains in detail, a whole lot - you will most certainly find this interest to be key - and you'll earn a pretty penny from learning-as-you-go as well. - I'll let you have a free copy the day we launch it. Keep in touch as well, if there's anything you need help with, I'll do my best for you.

    True Solution
    Steven

      Cailmoney,

Some excellent advice on here. I was going to suggest you take a look at W3schools as well, I never finished doing the free training course, but it is comprehensive and shows you how to really understand html.

I'd also suggest Wordpress as the way to go, quick and relatively easy. I'm just putting the finishing touches to an ebook guide on the basics of setting up a website, essentially step by step screenshots and instructions for buying a domain, setting up hosting and the basic installation of Wordpress. If you're interested and about to go this route I'd be happy to let you have a free copy, just PM me or let me know on here.

C'mon guys, let's be realistic here. Of course WP is the way to go but you know the truth. Everyone using WP will eventually need to call on a php dude to tweak a few things here and there. So, I'd suggest going to a Meetup.com group in your local area and finding someone who does WordPress programming and offer to PAY them to make little programming changes here and there when you need them. Do ANYTHING online and eventually you will find yourself in need of calling somoen....ANYONE...who can help. Much better to be able to call on someone later who is already familiar with your website today.

Once you would start to learn HTML, you may check out PHP or any other language that would be easy for you

Wordpress or Blogger would be my suggestion.

You really don't need to know much about html to enter the scene.
This is all done for you in WP and Blogger, and templates are provided to get you started and up and running.

One wee word of advice is to start with solid keyword research, and the rest can be done afterwards. If you start with building a site without finding a niche that will convert, then you'll be looking more at a hobby than an income.

    Good luck man!

If you are complete newbie use wordpress.

But i still recommend you learning some basic html and css coding. It isnt that hard.

Imagine a webpage as a bunch of many objects. With CSS you can change the variables (positions, colors, diameters, behaviour) of the these and create almost everything to your mind.

If you need help with how to start contact me.

If you have coding knowledge, you can go for PHP or HTML to develop the website. But its possible to develop websites even without technical knowledge using website building tools that come equipped with logos, images, videos or text. WordPress, Weebly are both very easy to use.

How completely wrong can you be?

You don't 'need' to learn Photoshop and Dreamweaver. It might be a great idea to develop your all round skills and understanding, but there are many thousands of people with successful websites who haven't a clue about either and just use WordPress.

I'm not saying WordPress is perfect by any means, but it sure beats spending weeks learning other ways if you just want a website and aren't interested in learning how to use complex software programs.

Just don't want those about to get going with their first website to feel overwhelmed by this undoubtedly well-meant but incorrect advice.

    hi Cailan.

it's really nice to meet you in this forum.

I do agree with the warrior's here who have recommended wordpress.
i will suggest you to get a domain name and host your website in a self-hosted wordpress site rather than one on wordpress.com, this will give you full control over your site.

It really depends what you intend to do. Do you want to use websites as a tool for selling products? Or do you want to learn design?
If you are keen on developing your own website designs and creating them just how you like them, then you can get started on learning to code. If you are not requiring advanced functionality atm, then it really isn't too complex. If all you are doing is displaying information, than HTML and CSS is what you need, which does not include any real programming skills, but more around design skills.

W3 schools is a wonderful website for teaching the basics, but pros still go back from time to time to check on specific things. It is basically a repository of useful information.

If you want to focus a lot more on the actual content of the websites then beginning with something like the WordPress software from wordpress.org will save you a stack of hassle and you can learn little CSS tricks along the way.

Hi..word press is the easiest and the best way to make a web site. Everything is custom built and you have to make very little effort when making a website using word press. There are plugins that you can add according to your needs. If you have no idea about how to create a website for your business then you could hire small business website development and internet marketing serivces from many sites online such as Small Business Web Design Services | SEO and Internet Marketing based in California | WebBased and the great thing is that these services are very affordable and you exactly get what you want.

    Hey Cailmoney,

Glad to see a new member on here! Since you are starting out there are 2 ways that would be best to go about having your first website.

    1) Use Wordpress. Wordpress is a content management system made EASY like SUPER EASY. It is very customizable and you can develop very professional looking websites through Wordpress.

    2) How about outsourcing? This is how I usually go about doing it. You can visit freelancing sites and find a freelancer who fits your needs for your price and pay him and he'll do it for you! Here are the basic sites to hire freelancers from that most people use: 1) Upwork.com 2) Fiverr.com 3) Elance.com

My personal recommendation is outsourcing because there is so much to learn and why learn about how to code unless if you really want to and are passionate about it?

    Anyways, hope this helps

    Best of wishes, Adam

Hi, its really easy to create a website. Yes, its important too to learn all such languages for creating a website. But, other options are also available like you may use a designing software like template-toaster, webo etc.. But, you must have the knowledge of HTML , Php, JavaScripts although such tool doesn't require any coding knowledge, using such tools you just need to design a theme using its drag n' drop options etc., and export that to the selected CMS.

    Hi Cailmoney,

I am 24 years old now, and I begun my studying building websites way back 12 years ago. But I never knew that time that I can make money from doing so.

So I begun creating sites from scratch, not actual sites, but mini blogs telling about myself (an autobiography). But the disadvantage for me is I need to pay $1 dollar per hour to use a computer since my family don't own any and the speed of the internet was 512kb or less... And with no teachers to asks.

To cut it short, I started to learn by copy and pasting codes and replacing them.

    1. Copy and paste.
    2. Replace them (experiment)
    3. repeat 1.

That was when I was 12, I spend 1 hour every month to create blogs, uploading my picture and even used a free web hosting services that provides free space to upload the html that I copied and pasted. For 2 years, I learned how to do the following, using div, marque (which I really love) and a little bit of CSS (mostly inline css).

I would also suggest doing the same 3-simple steps I have listed above, from that experience you will learn something more and add this to the list but erased #3

    3. Use Youtube to search for what you need to do
    4. Don't worry if you don't make right for the first time.
    5. Repeat

But if you would love to have a proper training, I suggest team threehouse. They have various sets of tutorials for HTML. And I would suggest that you would take the following courses.

    1. HTML
    2. Javascript
    3. PHP
    4. SQL

That's all I can share and recommend for now and sorry for the boring story.
