Well I'm sure some of you do use CMS's here, whats the preference, wordpress, drupal, joomla, dnn etc, I know some of them can be a pain to set up and just configuration can take a while to adapt new skins, themes etc, anyone use these?

I've been thinking about learning php more extensively with a view to creating a very simple CMS for clients that only need very limited facilities to add/delete/edit pages, is it worth it? Duno, would like to see what reaction this post gets any other solutions would be interesting to hear about too!

it's good to be back

  • Joomla, joomla, joomla.

It's my favourite. Very easy for all you have outlined. There are also lots and lots of premade templates available and an extensive library of externsions and modules to make your site ring bells and whistles everywhere.

It's very user friendly and to edit a client only needs to know how to use a program such as Word.

Joomla is actually an offshoot of drupal. Using drupal will be like using joomla, but drupal hasn't got anywhere near the following or support of joomla.

There are plenty of free tutorials for joomla as well. It's the complete package for any type of website you wish to build. Joomla also has a very good support forum where you can get issues or gain some help replied to in seconds in some cases.

Here is a joomla website where all I did was uplaod the joomla install and it worked. There is nothing else I did to it apart from include the content to advertise the site for sale.

    • Wordpress is the best website for me. I started out using wordpress about one year ago and have never looked back. Coming from a web design background I was originally skeptical, specially given that many of my niche internet marketing internet websites designed utilizing platforms like Dreamweaver had gone on to obtain fantastic ranks in Google and other major search engines...

My knowledge with Wordpress started off when I got Brian G Johnson's "Commission Ritual". I was promptly impressed with the rate at which I could setup internet sites and that I could create very attractive web sites extremely swiftly. One of the real benefits to utilizing a blogging platform such as WordPress is that you acquire access to lots of effective plugins which really make your website a lot more dynamic. What's more, these plugins might be installed in the click of a button.
  • Joomla hands down. I advise all my clients to use Joomla and I've recieved nothing but praise from them. It can be tricky to manage at first but once you get into the swing of things, it becomes second nature. The best feature about Joomla is the vast amount of extensions for it. You can truely create a world class website that is interactive yet beautifully made.

We have a Joomla development team so if you need customization work to be done, just let me know.
  • you should use joomla.
  • Joomla/WP is best CMS for you.

    • Aisha,

Is Wordpress very similar to Joomla?

      I am interested to know.

    • I'm using drupal.
For me it is the best CMS for security, stability and speed.
Oh, and it is full open source compared to most of good Joomla plugins that are not.
  • I find wordpress extremely easy to code for. And as it has taken the world by storm, any plugin that you write for yourself can be put on the market for others to purchase. Though Joomla is more powerful, there is also a greater learning curve.

There are a ton of simple CMS systems out there. Most are not very secure and easily cracked. But competing with WP may be a bit tough since it only takes minutes to get set up and running. I've created content management systems in my time. It is not as easy as you might think. With each issue you solve, you end up finding two more that now need dealt with. Then you want more features, more stats, more control. Before you know it you have wordpress or one of the others.

Now I can say, if you want to delve into strengthening your PHP skills, creating a CMS will help you do just that.

    my 2 cents

    • Wordpress CMS is the top options for blog webpage. Try to use the other CMS site like Joomla, Drupal, Blogger they have different scheme, script, and style. I like wordpress cms because it's user friendly and it's very easy to use. You can find more free business templates in the online unlike the other CMS fantastico.
  • I think Joomla is the best. With Joomla you can create sites to cater to the taste of international audiences since it supports many languages. If you intend to design a site for non English readers this feature can be a life saver. So even if your site is in English, your visitors can choose another language to view the contents if you install Joomla with an extension for languages. The site will be incredibly user friendly because visitors will be able to view the content in a language of their choice with a single click.

  • I say it depends on how much you really want to get into the programming end.

    WordPress - Basic
    Joomla - Intermediate
    Drupal - Advanced

You'll see a lot of fanatics whatever you use but overall most true developers use Drupal. WordPress no matter who tells you is not as robust as either that really isn't who it was made for.

    2 Cents,
