How do we correctly add rss feed info into a WP header?

WEB DESIGN

This is the message received when I'm posting on someone else's blog is: "Error on site www.oursite.com - trying to read http://www.oursite.com resulted in error : A feed could not be found at http://www.oursite.com"

More info confirms:
"No feed exists here (maybe rss link missing in header or site is down) (probably you have not got a proper feed reference in your site header".

So, I've added the info into the header. But it's still not working.

What's the right way to add this please?
