Wordpress pages domain help

Hi everyone,

Please can somebody help me?! :-)

I am making websites using Wordpress and Im running the Socrates plug in.

I want to get my categories and pages in my wordpress blog to make a URL thats:

mydomain.com/pagename
or
mydomain.com/categoryname

I can't seem to figure it out despite lots of time on the socrates forum and generally online... I wouldn't post it here if I hadn't already tried to figure this out.

Sorry if this is super simple and Im being dumb... some help would really be appreciated...

Also if there are other blog themes that are easier to do this with please let me know, thanks so much. Have a fab weekend everyone :-)

  • P.S. I know its something to do with the permalinks but I can't work it out. I can get the URLs to be mydomain.com/category/post-title...
  • In wordpress you need to go to settings then permalinks then select custom structure and enter /%postname%/ then click save
  • If you want to remove the category base entirely you need a plugin. It's this one:

    WordPress › WP No Category Base « WordPress Plugins

    Is that what you mean?

    @ray777 - thanks so much for the reply but this does not address my problem with either the page names becoming links like:

    mydomain.com/pagename

    or categories becoming mydomain.com/categoryname.

    All that it does is when you click on an actual specific blog post the URL becomes mydomain.com/actualblogpostname

    and I was already doing that anyway,. thanks so much for taking the time to reply though.

    @ we_got_tops - thats awesome for categories, any idea how to do the same thing for pages?? Im 90% interested in doing it for pages, the categories was just an aside really...

    THAT IS AWESOME!!!!! I went on the Socrates forum for AGES - literally days - not constantly LOL but on and off waiting for those b**tards to reply... they coudl have just given me that link...

    why are some people so unhelpful?! thanks SO MUCH for sharing that, its AWESOME!!!

    Im gonna search for the same thing with pages - if you happen to know of anything or see anything please let me know and thanks so much!! If you ever need any audio help please just ask, or music for things - I run a record label here in London.

  • Hey I just wanted to post on this thread, that Dan from Socrates has been in touch with me personally and has been AWESOME with helping me with anything Im confused about. Im really happy and actually quite surprised that someone is taking so much time to make sure people are helped. Im so used to the usual crap with IM products and my initial queries must have slipped under the radar somehow :-) So thanks Socrates, thanks Dan :-) Happy I stuck with it :-)
