I comment often on Wordpress, Movable Type and Blog Engine platforms.

Question is... What is the real big difference in the commenting platform between WP and MT?

Is there one when it comes to linking in the comment field or is it just the same as wordpress? can you just blah right in the comment field or do you have to do it like blog engine?...where your name field ends up being your anchor text

I can't really seem to find much difference between WP and MT but I want to hear it from somebody who really knows.

I don't want to waste anymore time commenting on blogs where i don't get my backlinks posted.

Even in WP your name is the anchor text... because most WP blogs are set to put your comments in the spam folder if you include any links in the comment text.
It is up to the blog owner what type of comments will allow. Definitely, nobody wants to have your spammy comments to help you with your "backlinks".

If you have something vaulable to say - you will get a backlink. If you post sh*tty comments, akismet will blacklist your email/url very quickly.

Comments in blogs were NOT invented for giving you (and all the half-brained SEO "experts") backlinks. It was supposed to be an interactive feature: discussion between the blogger and his readers...

I kill all the irrelevant comments on my blogs or - when in evil mood (=always) - I leave the text unless it's nonsense but edit the URL.

Brief version: the difference is NOT between the blogging platforms. The real difference is between the bahaviour and intention of the commenters. And blog owners are good in detecting the BS comments

So just for clarification... here is a movable type blog Short Sharp Science: How could boozing help you lose weight?
The name field is not an active link, and yet some how it is still the anchor text tom my link?

And here is a Wordpress powered blog... 50 Cent Weight Loss: WOW! [PHOTOS] | Celebrity Smack: Gossip and Entertainment Blog (pretty funny too)

The name fields are dead. And I don't see anybody that has been able to post a url in there comment.

Is there any difference between the two of these besides the way they are originally installed? or what? To me they seem identical when it comes to commenting and there is really no benefit to it.

So really I guess my question is. Can I actually benefit from commenting to either of these.

      Thanks,
      Harrison
