I have my website on Godaddy and there is no protected area or away for MY CUSTOMERS to D/L FREE pdfs. I am fundraising, so IF it can be free, that would be good! I just want to UPLOAD a few small FREE PDFS file that my donor/customers can directly link to for D/L. WHY is this so difficult? I have been working on it for hours!

    WHY is this so difficult?
Maybe because it is not entirely clear what you want to do...?

A "protected area" and being able to "link directly" to download are kind of contradictory ideas. You will need to decide which one is that you want.

Sorry, I was referring to Godaddy. Godaddy doesn't have anything that would work. I want to UPLOAD the free pdfs and have my customer access it through a direct file link. No logging in, no passwords etc. FREE would be nice!

Its not difficult, you just put the files in a directory and link to them if you want them to be free.

If you want them to subscribe or charge for them you would give the uses a token, save token in database, and email them a link to a central download script that reads the token, deletes it in the database, and serves the file.

Sorry, I have no idea what you mean by a 'directory'. The pdfs are on my hard drive. I want to upload them to a free hosting site that my customer can D/L them for free with a link.

        Hi,

It is actually quite easy to do this, and you were clear about your intent, I can see that you do not know much about web design - thus your post.

I am willing to help you in either of these ways:

        1) PM me with your phone number and I will upload the files for you, you can email them to me.
        2) Same thing as above, except I'll just put them on one of my servers for you, or I can place them on Amazon S3 for a one year limit until Feb. of 2012.
