I have to agree with W3schools - it's been the best source for me. Even all my professors (majored in web programming) sent us to W3schools when we couldn't find a specific answer in our overly priced text books. This site always had clear, precise instructions that were easy to understand.

I started learning HTML years ago but only in a limited way because I worked primarily in the network and systems admin area of the I.T. world. Then recently I started getting serious about web design and started off using ASP. As with all server side scripting languages the pages are still rendered using HTML and CSS so the tutorials I found on ASP still dealt a lot with HTML. Anyway there are hundreds of video tutorials for ASP to be found at ASP.NET

These tutorials are also based on using Microsoft's Visual Studio Express edition which is a free tool and in fact the best editing tool I have ever found, 10 x better than Dreamweaver.

The only real downside to the ASP tutorials is that WP is written in PHP which is unfortunate because the DB support in ASP is amazing.

When I started messing around with HTML we were running Windows 98 SE and Photoshop 4.0 and CorelDraw 4. In fact I think I still have the original copy of FrontPage around here somewhere.

Another very good site for HTML & CSS tutorials for beginners: HTML and CSS Tutorials, References, and Articles | HTML Dog

And for peeking at CSS and how it's done, check out: css Zen Garden: The Beauty in CSS Design

It's old school and not really updated anymore, but still, the CSS there is inspiring.

I designed my website (page, really) in 1996. It started as one large gif, because I couldn't get HTML to look the way I wanted it to...

I have the Digital Raindrops website running for over a year now, where I have about 100 posts on WordPress, Artisteer theme development, and even a few on Facebook minisites in the new IFrame.

These are not "Design Tutorials" as I do not have the artistic flair, but they have development code for adding many additional design elements.

One series of twenty plus posts are all for WordPress "Twenty Ten" child themes.

Most posts in a series are supported by incremental downloads and working examples.

While learning the many code examples I found, fell well short of being useful for a novice or intermedite, as they were not supported by examples.

I am new on the Warrior Forum, but have been active on the WordPress and Artisteer forums, and I have had a theme accepted to the WordPress directory called Atmosphere 2010 that has over 22000 downloads in five months.

I hope this is the sort of content you were looking for.

    Hi All Friends !

I am very new to this great forum (off-course built-on great guys like you) and seriously i needed help on this one:

I have only this website(free hosted by Page4) at the moment. And i am writing content for it and investing time in designing and all for this one-but its obvious to believe that i am going to make my own website with my domain name and with a paid web host, entirely different from the present one-page4.

So real situation is that when i will be creating new website i would be taking with me my all content on this current website-and i will delete this page4 sub-domain named free hosted website completely for good.

Now the real question is my friends- will it create any problem for my new-website regarding content ( as a duplicate content as it is now on page4 subdomain, though it will be completely deleted from this place) or anything else(you might think).

Please suggest me guys, do i need to take care of some thing?

Please do answer me asap ,as i need this help desperately!

Thanks in advance (firstly to the first replier and later on to the all in proper order

      aivil,

I don't know for sure but I don't think so. Even if there is some impact I think it would be minimal.

I would not let this detail hold you up from moving forward.

If I may ask, what are you trying to do here? There may be some alternatives that might be a better fit.

      Just my opinion.

I highly suggest all new webdesigners to learn HTML5 and CSS3 - its really really awsome! (of course every1 who knows css+html already will need to update his knowledge aswell)

For CSS3 this will be the most important site for you:

    CSS3 Please! The Cross-Browser CSS3 Rule Generator

Check this site regulary, as they are updating it very often, because CSS3 and HTML5 is both still in development and some things still change.

For HTML5 you should take a look at this site to get an idea of what HTML5 is capable of:

    HTML5 Boilerplate - A rock-solid default template for HTML5 awesome.

And of course the non plus ultra for every1 who does a lot css designs: http://960.gs/

@aivil: yes it will indeed be seen as duplicate content and it wont help if you simply delete the old page. What you need to do is to setup a 301 redirect. That will tell Google that the site has moved and all your old backlinks will be counted for the new page. just search google for "301 redirect" for more infos.

I think it still valuable to learn. If you want to be professional web developer you need to know everything. Because different customers-different needs. Somebody wants WordPress website, but somebody needs html and css.

      Creativity is key.

If you're got artistic talent already then grab a trial copy of Illustrator / Photoshop / Fireworks, Dreamweaver and watch some tutorials online.

Maybe buy a virtual hosting reseller account to get to grips with hosting and to offer such services.

Three years ago i started learning how to create a website. But i had to by numerous tutorials in order to learn simple, fundamental stuff. I am not a programmer and Dreamweaver, although superb software, is to complex and would take me forever to learn.
So what have i done? I created tutorial for people like me, that want to learn fundamentals, but want their websites to look professional as well. All this can be done with free programs, so i only teach how to create a website with free tools. Hope this helps, and if you now someone who wants to learn this, feel free to give them link to my website.
