What's wrong with my new website?

I recently created a new website for the fitness community. On the site, I sell P90X, INSANITY, and other Beachbody products.

Could you Warriors please take a look at the site and offer me your honest feedback?

If you could give me some suggestions for more traffic, that would be great too.

The first link in my signature is the website in question.

Looks like you got a good amount of information, but the information is all over the place.

Your main header image is weird too. I think it's off center, the title words are cut off. it says "Improve Your...." then it gets cut off.

I don't really know what to expect when I visit this site.

    Hi Marv,

If possible, I would suggest making the site less wide by moving some of the less important tabs up top to the footer.

Additionally, there is a lot of "white space" between the content, and footer, which might not be really aesthetically pleasing to the visitor.

Not sure if I'd like the "extra income" section if i was there looking to get bigger. Makes the site feel way too commercial rather than informational

I'll be very honest with you I wanted to beat the crap out of your tax lien site with a stick

any site that won't let me go and gives me "4" pop ups
is a site I'lll never return to....far too many popups

and the pic (in my opinion she's a pretty lady, but if I need real tax help, I don't get a "feel for it") take up too much real estate you are losing "split second" needs to capture a visitor with the need to have to "look towards the bottom of the page" to start to get any real "text" too much work, I'm on to a different site!

and the nav bar (green" is broken, looks amatuerish)

and I gave you the "scoop" on the site you didn't ask about! sorry marv!
don't worry when I put my site in my sig, you can get me back!

I made the domain name long because I thought I was providing many variations for search engines when people are looking for Weight Loss and Fitness related information.

Was that not a good assumption?

I will be honest man there are too many ads and banners. I don't know if you know about the paradox of choice but when you give the visitors too many things to check out they will get confused and leave.

I have found it so much easier to take it one step at a time. Do not promote a few different products equally. Review them yourself and recommend the one you truly enjoyed the most.

It is so much easier to sell one product on a blog than having all these products you recommend. Also people come to these blogs for lots of original content. It is best to have a good ratio of helpful free content to promotions.

I know this is an authority site but until you get the traffic of an authority site I would keep things simple. On top of that with this kind of site I would certainly build a list by offering a good free report. Recommend that rather than products they have to pay for right off the batt.

This is just my own opinion and I hoped it helped.

The domain name is not good. I can get you better ones.
The site has too many google ads and too many categories (all that privacy, terms, etc. should be on footer)
The Header needs to be adjusted to fit.
The white grey area in header needs to be removed.
The scrolling box needs to be removed.
And last but most important thing ... if those article are from any article farms like ezine articles then remove them because Google has once again changed the ball game this week. No spins either.

Having Google ads will detract from visitors buying whatever you are selling. Your whole reason for the website is to sell your product and you don't want visitors clicking on ads that will take them away from your website. I agree with most of the other people's comments on here, but don't worry just change a few things and you'll be fine.

I agree about the popups on the tax lein site - they go beyond irritating. I was checking for loading time and planned to go back to look at the site - won't do it because of the frustration of those multiple popups.

I'm always amused when people critique domains because there are hyphens. Obviously, you don't want too many hyphens but you have the keywords in there. Two of my highest earning sites have multiple hyphens - go figure.

I don't understand the "income" attached to the first domain. Either you have a weight loss site - or an income site. Pick one. You can have a weight loss site where an upsell is an income earner but the way you have it is confusing.

Load times were fine for me. There are changes that would improve the sites - take a step or two at a time. Test and tweak every facet of the site.

I'm going to agree with the fact that URLs-with-dashes-are-tough.

Secondly, there's a lot of white space going on and could be tweaked to pull things in a little better, and, in my opinion, you have too many adds.

There might not be anything wrong with it, if you are getting the results you are looking for. If you are not, it could be for a couple of reasons.

Every page on your site is really busy, there are a lot of choices of things to click on without much content to balance it out.

If you are going to put your navbar at teh top of the page, then you might consider leaving off the lower navbar.

Sometimes, when peopl eput their navbar up at the top, it is to get people to look at something in the header area and then to click on that. But your header image is not clickable.

You could try using one sidebar only and put all the extra stuff in there. Right now the borders around your sidebar are broken for the hoplink builder widget. It doesn't mean anything for clicking on the ads, but it is visually disturbing and could lead to a bit more abandonment than would be the case if they were whole.

But mostly it is just super busy and get a little tiring to read. If this is your intent, then it is succeeding very well. Forcing people off your page onto an ad is a strategy. Maybe that was your intention.

I think you're trying to put too much on the page. My advice would be to create different sites for each product and make each one with a very clear message and navigation.

Right now it's overwhelming and will scare people away. Do one site for P90X then another for insanity etc.

There's a great book by Tim Ash called landing page optimization, he also occasionally does free webinars which are brilliant. Check it out.

I won't bother with the "look", but I will add what others are saying: there's room for tweaking definitely. BTW your domain name is no big SEO issue, I've about 9 sites with dashes and I'm doing just fine with them.

Having said all that, you won't make much from this site as is - for the reasons a few others above me mentioned. Plainly, pick one thing and sell it. You've got too many places on that page for folks to click, too much for them to consider. If your main goal is to make money from the P90X program, get rid of adsense and your clickbank "Truth About Abs" joint as well, because by placing all these ads you have set up a sort of "competition" for the click you are trying to get, which always leads to a NON click. The only decision you want a visitor to have to make is "do I want P90X" or "Do I not want P90X". Right now your inundating them, and their little consumer brains are saying "Do I want P90x or the Truth About Abs? And btw, that google ad looks like it could be cool.... ah f$$k it, I'll keep searching."

Basically you're saturating your target market with too many options, diluting interest. Seriously, the site reads like an ad bomb, and most folks click away from something that looks overly commercial, even authority sites. Pick the 1 thing you assume will get you the most cash, and laser focus the site solely on that. Where your clickbank ad is located could be links to other "interest" stories relevant to P90X, or a video, e.t.c... Where your adsense is located could be more P90X success stories, before and after pix, e.t.c... Essentially EVERY click on that page should land your visitor to another P90X sales pitch, or to various content and convincers.

I never caught any pop up ads (which is a good thing) but I'm thinking you might want a hovering opt in, offering a free E book or Report as a hook. Maybe a footer pop up, since they aren't so obtrusive. Get that list going, build it and nurture it like a money tree, and eventually that's what it will become. Send them a sequence of follow ups, soft sell them for a few months. Give them some free work out tips, nutritional advice, e.t.c... Lists are gold, especially in your niche.

Also trying to understand the title of that page as it applies to you selling P90X? Are you trying to get money from the program or gather affiliates for beachbody? Either way you go, the title needs to reflect what you're selling a lot better than just saying "Extra Income". And again, pick one thing to hit, and hit it hard. If you want to sell both the program and the "coaching" set up, make only 1 of these the main focus of the site, and the other an afterthought/option. For P90X you likely want to pitch the "coaching" AFTER you've sold them the system.

Oh, and just as a heads up, arguably video pages always get better stats when text is first and the video is at or near the fold. So that big red arrow you have should be pointing to the video, not the other way around. For some psychological reason tested at some University somewhere I've never been(), people have studied this phenomenon. Please don't ask where I gathered this info, I truly can't remember. All I know is my data has proven the theory many times from constant testing my bounce rate and CTR over the years.

Video is good for conversions IMO. You Need a better line than Extra Income sounds like another boring biz opp.

"Average People Make $5,567.00 + a month Watch Now"

Makes them want to watch it right away also fix those an yeah you do have lost of things all over but if you can get a catchy headline an make the video the first thing they watch an have a Email opt in right away get going on some PPC, FB, other traffic avenues to get the most of your site as is.

If you are looking for more sales I would suggest making the site less bloggy and more ecommerce based. I would add the actually products on the home page. There is also to much going on in the right column. That can be distracting.

I have a few ecommerce blogs and found out that the best thing to do to improve conversions is to not have the archives, recent post, adsense, and meta widgets displayed on the product pages.

For me, personally, having been a TBB coach, I have to say that :

I would change the banner so that it is smaller and fits properly (they have other banners in the back-office that might fit better).

There are way too many ads on the right...the "Recent Post" widget is washed out and blends in with all of the ads.

I would find a guy for the website images, since you are a guy.

Make it about YOUR personal TBB journey and how it has changed your health, physique, life and income.

Okay, that's my 2 cents. Hope I could help a bit.

        One question:

        Where are you Marv?

Dont be runnin on us man.

You started this thread at the beginning of the month and you have only replied back once.

The site has potential, you just need to get the design corrected.

My advice is get a pro to do it man, might only cost you a couple of hundred bucks but you kow it will be done right.

Then get yourself a few really really good quality articles written, no spin, just quality original content and then backlink the hell out of the site and monitor it.

I think there is plenty for you to do, come back when you need more advice.

Both websites are too cluttered and disorganized, and you have banners and Adsense ads peppered all over them. It just doesn't look very professional, and is definitely not going to build trust and confidence in the minds of your visitors.

Think about what you primarily want your websites to accomplish, and then design them with that goal in mind. Don't give your visitors too many choices, you should make it very clear what you want them to do. Both sites need to be completely redesigned if you want them to be more effective in converting site visitors into (desired) action takers.

    Paul

EDIT: I was assaulted with at least 3 pop-ups before I was allowed to leave your tax lien site - people are not going to like this! Use one pop-up at most if you have to use it, 3 is pretty excessive in my opinion.

As a general matter, I don't like ads on websites. I don't monetize my sites with ads, but I know why many webmasters end up monetizing their websites with Google Adsense. For this particular website, the ads are too visible and they are getting in the way of whatever message you are trying to send to your visitors.

If you're not depending entirely on those ads for your revenue, I'd reduce their visibility by either using smaller font for them or placing them at the bottom of each page.
