Which Wordpress theme for a website not a blog?

Hi

Could someone recommend a wordpress theme which is suitable for a website not a blog. All themes seem to look and feel as a blog.

  • without knowing what u want to do with the website, this post is moot. seriously, i can find you themes for sharing videos, selling clothes, publishing a magazine, showingcasing a portfolio...etc...etc...

    with wordpress, the world is your oyster.

    u need to state what u want to the website to do, then we can find u a theme to suit.

    • just go to "themeforest" or "elegant themes" and pick one you like. They have hundreds of themes that look like standard websites as opposed to blogs. If you want a theme you can make look anyway you want - check out "platform pro theme"
  • Some notable examples that come to mind:

    WP Full Site, a free theme that is a child theme of Hybrid.

    I am not including links to any of the below, just use Google to find them.

    Some of the free themes at Woothemes have magazine styles so they don't look like a blog.
    Optimize Press is a paid theme that's designed precisely for creating sales and squeeze pages.
    Brave Minisite templates gives some excellent sales-page like templates in exchange for an opt-in (IIRC).

  • Any wordpress theme can be easily changes to a website with static pages only

    Depending on your level of CSS and PHP coding skills you need to decide on a free or premium wordpress theme

    If you are good at coding, then a free theme will be easy for you to customise

    If you have no coding skills, you may consider a premium theme because it will be very easy to change it to a website from a blog and fully customise to your liking

      Most themes can be used as a website simply by using just PAGES instead of posts for your individual pages. You'll want to start by setting up a HOME page.

      To make the page you called HOME your true homepage (or the first page that comes up when you type in your URL), go to your WP Dashboard.

      Then go to READING
      At the top you'll see "Front Page Displays As"
      Click on the bubble next to "A Static Page"
      Then click on your HOME page from the drop down beside "Front page"

      You don't need to worry about posts unless you'd like to add a blog to the website.

      Now when you start adding pages like ABOUT, PRODUCTS, CONTACT, etc., you'll want these to PAGES and not posts.

      Hope that gives you a better feel for how to use Wordpress for a static website.

  • I use Thesis for all my sites now. It saves a lot of third party plug-ins, is very fast, very well supported, and is an excellent framework.
  • Why not try using Artisteer (I'm not an afilliate). With this easy software (free trial version) you can easily design wordpress and html site templates with a few clicks of your mouse. I use it all the time.

    • You don't need any experience in coding, the software dose everything for you. All you have to do is uploaded to your server.
  • go to genesis and check the business templates, I think you will like it
  • Well you should check other people's blog and see what you think is the best.
    You can always buy theme's which are mostly very goo theme's
  • I recommend using themes from themeforest, because they provide many themes to corporate.
