Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of creating a website for my sister business, she runs a bouncy castle hire company and would like a website to target 8 different small towns (none have a population about 3000).

I was thinking of getting a url to target the main town (the largest one) however this may put off the other towns visitors so then thought about buying a generic domain such as childrensparties.com, and using subdomains so it would look like:

town1.childrensparties.com
town2.childrensparties.com

Would this layout give me an extra seo boost, as appose to using:
childrensparties.com/town1
childrensparties.com/town2

Or should I target the biggest town in the url for the google boost such as:
childrenspartiesintown1.com and then target the other towns in pages such as childrenspartiesintown1.com/town2?

I think I will do this, since the main town is my biggest concern.

Thanks for the thought dump anyway!

Sam
Many thanks?

I would probably go after the major town/city first that has the highest number of searches. This one is going to take the longest to rank for. On this site you can then do separate pages for each of the smaller towns. Over time make sure you build some good relevant links to all pages on the site.

Depending on how things go you could then consider buying the domains for the smaller towns at a later stage.

Marketing to each town seperately will be powerful for your SEO.

The simplest way would to have childrensparties.com/town. I do this at my agency for several cities in my region. This will also count towards the total power of the childrensparties.com domain, since all pages appear under it.

For sub domains, you are going to want to do more than just single pages for each town. Search engines will count the sub domain and the TLD as different sites, so you will have seperate SEO campaigns.

I haven't started the website yet?

Thanks guys, I should be easily be able to rank for the keywords I need. Its just more from the visitors point of view.

I think I will go for childrensparties.com/town, and follow the rough layout Revenant45 spoke about, and purchase the brand url and redirect it to the childrensparties.com when it becomes available.

My only worry is that someone could come along and register a domain with the main town we are targeting and easily beat us in seo.

      Many thanks,

      Sam

    ^^^ This guy on drugs?

Anyway... OP, you should go childrensparties.com/town. From a strict design standpoint it will be a much better/cleaner layout. Your main page should concentrate on the service your selling (bounce houses and such), making it as attractive as possible and setting the business apart from all other choices.

Nice crisp banner images of children enjoying the product along with some sort of parental approval stuff...nice sunny days... make your product into an event they can't pay enough for and want their child to experience.

After you've got their attention in an elegant way, you begin to prioritize your market locations. The bigger areas getting top billing as they should be showcased prominently. Individual pages for each town could work, just make sure you have enough content for that particular area... and show that you actually know the area well.

Say a lot without saying much and a cluttered website = lost sales. I hope you're truly designing the site instead of just wordpressing it. Hope it does well.
