Data is in the database: posts, Pages, comments, settings. The easiest backup (for me) is to go into the phpMyadmin and export the DB. People who don't know WP - use a backup plugin.

There is no real need to backup your theme all the time. It doesn't change. And since every normal WP user edits their theme on their own computer... you always have a backup copy there.

Wordpress offer several free plugins that will backup your databases (this does not include a full site backup)

Wordpress also offer an export tool that will export a copy of your content

If you want full backup, you'll need a premium services. This will backup everything including seo settings, theme settings, plugins and plugin settings as well as your databases and content.

I would suggest a plugin called WP Twin or a similar name. It escapes my head at the moment, but it is a great tool and it did a full copy in minutes!
