WP "Home" page, shows as "domain.com/home" shouldn't it be the domain with the "home" extension?

hello warriors,

hope your day/ eve is good!

should a theme have both a

domain.com
domain.com/home
?

Mine has both?

This is at least the second or third WP theme that I've used that seems to to be coded this way. I had always thought your root domain was "domain.com" by default your homepage?.

So today I tried a theme I've never used before "dateless sniper 2.0" and realized that this theme behaves that way "inherently" as well...so it's not me apparently, but some theme are hard coded this way, I suppose you would say....

Is this normal site architecture?

I wonder if this would cause a problem when G tries to crawl the site?
and honestly it seems odd as if I have "2 home pages in a sense"

can anyone tell me why they make theme this way, and is it "suggested" that I leave them that way?

your feedback would be very much appreciated!~

    Danni,

I would wager that you have a page (an actual WordPress page that you created) named 'Home', and that you have it set as the site home page on the Settings > Reading configuration page.

The URLs really have nothing to do with the theme or the way it's coded. Architecture comes from within WP itself, the theme just controls the visual aspect and what gets displayed for any given URL.

      thank you steve!

steve I think you're right. I noticed the date of the "post" and it looks like I probably made it ! so then I "deleted" it, and it went away

      so even though the post is gone, and if I navigate to "domain.com/home" the page looks normal, except where the post was it says;

Not found error 404 The page you are looking for no longer exists.

other than that the page is still there? (it was a "post" but it says "page")

I see those words "home" along with the words(about 5 words total) that were formerly in that post (according to the sidebar) it's still "live"? so I'm thinking if the existence of "domain.com/home" really is "no more" shouldn't I get a complete page error?

is it that due to latency on my hosting?

I've noticed that (oddly enough) just since last nite changes I make are delayed in appearing on my site, it used to be "real time" and suddenly it's delayed

or, could it be I need to "erase it" elsewhere in the theme's editor? I mean can is take up "permanent residency" somewhere else in the themes coding?

I'm a "tech" dork as you can tell!

If you deleted it, it should be gone, you shouldn't be seeing the words that were on the page.

No, there's no need to erase anything in the actual theme...and you should be seeing 'real time' results, nothing should be delayed.

By your description, you have some weird stuff going on. It's very difficult to troubleshoot something without at least seeing the site. If you want to PM me the address, I'll take a quick look for you.

thank you again steve\and thank you happyman

I just added the plugin xml sitemap to see what it shows and "domain.com/home" isn't shown there....I'm really starting to believe it's the same latency I noticed last nite

Yes, usually 99 % of the time, without fail anything I do to my sites are "immediately" affected, but last nite I would change something, and double check, and sure enough it wouldn't change for a protracted period of time

I'm on a shared host, or maybe their switch is processing slow?

I then (I literally have nothing on the site yet, except now the sitemap, and I have had supercache...) tried to "disable"wp supercahce" and deleted the "cached file" using the button in the plugin, hope that doesn't hurt anything...looked ok

but the view of the site remains the same ? I'm really thinking it's the latency I experienced last nite...

if not by tomorrow steve I will take you up on that

        steve,

        by the way thanks

it seems to have resolved itself.....there is latency for certain, but like you say it's almost always 99% "immediately effective"

I'm wondering if the supercache can in some ways with respect to updates on particular areas of a theme, host or database can get cached, and not show updates throughout the entire theme?

        because that is what happened!

        stranger than fiction!

You were very nice to offer you help, and I appreciate it

you will need to flush the cache of stale content in order to see the changes immediately. There's probably a link somewhere for the supercache plugin for you to flush it.

            thank you lee

actually I looked for something like that yesterday and found an item within supercache identifying itself as "delete cache"

I just tested it, learned a bit more about it and I see by deleting the cache and changing the time set and then checking for parity it seems to update!

            tada!! giggles!
