Hey guys,

I'm trying to redo my friends website... unfortunately he isn't sure where he bought the domain name... Is there a way to find this information out? We need to get into the account to change the DNS to my server

      Thanks!!

Yeah I saw that it was hosted on a bluehost server... Whoever designed the website before used bluehost.... So I need to find out where he purchased the domain name... so I can get in there and point the servers to hostgator which I use

      Thanks

Should have stuck with bluehost as they offer great tech support

Just paste the domain name into whois and find the registrar which normally is the domain manager as well and contact them

You'll need full access to the domain if you want to change the DNS(nameservers)

Hope you have the login and password for the domain managers control panel

Whois tool will help you find who the registrar of any domain is. If you need to transfer registrar, ask the present registrar to give you the authorization code and unlock the domain so the tranfer will be completed. It normally takes 5-6 days to transfer.

But if the present registrar seems ok, just stick with them. The only way people transfer is to find a cheaper registrar.

I gave you information to the whois lookup. In many cases, what is reported in the whois is your domain host. You could have a go between party but i'd start with " bluehost.com " as that is how it's currently listed in whois
