I have this old styled .Html page ranking No:1 for a good keyword.Recently it dropped to #10.I am thinking it to convert the .Html site to Wordpress.(Since it will be easier for
me to create new posts and since google loves WP)

My fear is ...will i be losing my Google Search engine position if i do this?
is it advisable to do it?What precautions should i take while changing the site?

I really don't know the answer but am interested in hearing about this from other members who may know.
My thought would be, why not leave the html site and then start a new site with a different keyword in the title, so you then have 2 instead of one?

    Hello,

It is likely to affect your results but hopefully you will get better results, the number one thing to do is to create 301 redirects for all you old pages to send this traffic to new pages created with WP. This tells google that your pages have moved permanently and will direct all traffic to the new pages. This isn't too difficult to do and happy to help you create one so you can see what needs to be done.

I found this page on google help about 301'redirects and feel free to email if you would like some further help with them

Make sure the link structure of your new Wordpress website is the same as the current site.

    Use 301 redirects too.

I dont think your SERP will be affected if you convert it, it might get affected the first day you go live but you will recover soon due and rank even better due to the magic of Wordpress.

just copy and paste the html into wordpress. Google loves wordpress and it should only improve your serps.

What permalink structure are you using and will you keep it the same?

i suggest /%category%/%postname%/ and using 2 plugins to back this up

I've written 5 blog posts on moving your site to wordpress from another site type/location/host or domain that may help you

There all filed under the "site move" category on my blog. Link below

You will lose your rankings if you don't know what you are doing. I recently did this switch for two different clients, one client was ranking #1 for many competitive terms for her niche, after the conversion she stayed on top and has been for awhile now. The key is to make sure you don't change any of your SEO strategy in the conversion.
