How to make a band website?

Hey guys,

So I am looking for some information on how to build a simple band website like this one:

www'kelsiecameron'com

(I would link it, but I do not have 15 posts on here yet. If you want to check out that site, please just copy and paste it and replace the apostrophes with periods. But I'm sure you guys already knew that! haha )

That site uses Wordpress and from the research I have done, Wordpress seems to be the easiest/simplest CMS out there. I have all the Adobe CS5 programs and I am just sort of confused on which programs do what.

Could someone please just tell me which programs I should use, start to finish?

I have an general idea that I create my design in either Photoshop or Illustrator and then move it to Dreamweaver to make it an active webpage. Is this statement accurate? I am willing to put in the time to learn these programs on a basic level for now and as time goes on, just get more familiar with them.

So my questions are: What is the process, start to finish, of creating a totally new designed simple website and using wordpress as the CMS? (And what is the easiest way?)

Thanks a lot guys! I really appreciate any answers.

That's right, Wordpress is the easiest way to make website. It's user friendly and there are lots of tutorials spread all over the internet. In your case try to use the theme Flexx Dark it's very appropriate for the bands website.

I'd use WordPress because there are some great plugins for bands like Gig Press showing their events and also the ones that shows their records with affiliate links (ugh forgotten its name!). There are also a multitude of themes that look great for bands like the grungy look, dark and the vibrant ones.

    Process:

Buy domain name and get hosting
If your domain and hosting are separate ie domain at GoDaddy and host at Hostgator change your DNS to point to your web host name servers
    Install WordPress.org on your domain
    Install gorgeous theme
Install relevant plugins - Yoast for SEO, maybe a contact form, gig press, sexy bookmarks ....(loads to choose from here).

Thank you for your responses. I am already quite familiar with how to use wordpress. I have a few sites running as just simple blogs and whatnot.

My main question is: how would I go about creating a totally new theme?

Here's what I usually do when I create themes for Wordpress.

        1. List all the specific areas and requirements that the design will have.
        2. Draw the sites design in hand(rough draft to be followed)
        3. Create a mock up design through Photoshop(consider the page templates in designing)
        4. If you know CSS and PHP, convert the Photoshop Design through slicing the images and code it up to a Wordpress Theme.
I usually use Thesis Theme Framework in making a theme. But when I was short on budget back then, I made a custom theme framework that I made. Or you can use free theme frameworks like Ashford or customize the twentyone built-in theme of Wordpress.

        Hope I helped.

WordPress is the best for these types of sites, which often need updates of gig/touring schedule, etc. It's easy for band members or others to update images and videos too.

There are a lot of web hosting tools in the web, but you can check freewebsitemaker. co .uk for the reviews they have on each, especially on the best web hosters available. I hope this helps in choosing which service would you like to use in creating the band site.

Go to codex.wordpress.org to learn how to design WordPress themes. Caution: It can be a daunting task to learn and create a new theme.

      All the best.
