WANTED: How do I add a blog to a self-hosted WP site that is all static pages?

Hi,

I want to have a blog on a self-hosted Wordpress site that is comprised of static pages only. I could use Fantastico and install the blog in its own directory and call it "blog" but I'm wondering that since this is already a self-hosted Wordpress site (again, its all static pages including the homepage), is there a way to make a blog within this site without a separate occurrence of Wordpress in a "blog" directory?

Ultimately the setup I want will be to have a "Blog" link in the top nav bar and the right sidebar. When a visitor clicks the "Blog" link they will go to a conventional looking blog page where they will see excerpts of all the blog posts.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Steve

This is easy, create a new page, name it Blog, leave the body of the page blank.

Go to Settings > Reading and set the Blog page to the page you just created named Blog.

Then, create a post, and voila, it'll show up on your blog page.

    Good luck!

        No problem Steve.

WordPress improves by leaps and bounds when it undergoes a major version update, I can't remember exactly when this feature was added, but it has been around for a while.

Happy to introduce you to that feature!

        Good Luck

Just a heads up: There are a few themes out there that work slightly different. If when you create your blank page title "blog", some themes have a page template you can select titled "blog template", so you select that template in the page editor. Some of these themes that use this setup won't work properly if you adjust the Settings==>Reading section.

But most themes will work just as described above. I just wanted to add this in case someones theme was different. (Those use theme settings, not WP settings)
