I need to build and a shopping cart for my brick and mortar printing supplies company. Products include paper products, toner cartridges both OEM and compatibles and specialty items.

I use Quickbooks. What would be the best cart or way to this?

    Hey Rearr,

I use Zen Cart as my shopping cart. I found it pretty easy to use (their forum is really good) and comes with a lot of free templates and add ons as well.

I was looking at osCommerce but their lack of free templates made me decide on Zen Cart.

You could simply add paypal buttons directly into your site so its very simple

I haven't tried oscommerce or zen cart but i hear there could be a steep learning curve. I do own Gravity forms which is A grade and have used WP eCommerce for years and started using it when i was inexperienced and it was pretty easy back then.

Whats the URL to your site?

It really depends on the look you are after, if you want it on your current site or a seperate directory.

Just saw in a threat that you know about Gravity Forms and thought i ask you something.

I currently configure a wooCommerce Theme for a client. normaly there is no issue at all as the documentation is well explained. unfortunately i dont get help in the Forum and need some help. All i need to know is, whether you would be willing to give me a tip how i can create such a ordering page like this (see URL) in Gravity Forms (dev.). I installed the necessary Plugins already for the ecommerce Theme.
In short words, lets say, on a page the 3 steps with different ways to select options for the Product they selected at the beginning then upload a file and as they go further they can add additional items and check out ... lets say a simplification of this way here --- Order Online . I would also pay you something if you could give me a short advice that i am able to start because i dont know how to start with such a form like this....
Thank you so much for any feedback or advice. I really appreciate that.
      God bless you

I use magento for my ecomm sites. The only problem I find is that it takes a while to fix all the 'seo bugs'. Yes, I know we do SEO ourselves, but the common things like canonical urls, duplicate content etc is annoying with Magento. If you're decent with apache or htaccess, you should be fine. There's a Yoast canonical urls thing there as well. We have a whole crap load of 301 redirects which I'm not too happy using and it takes a lot of time. Then again, we're on magento 1.3.0. Not sure if 1.5.0 has updated these little bugs.

I have heard ZenCart is a good plugin but like others I have not used it. I like the Shopp Plugin for Wordpress, its pretty good for SEO also, problem is the learning curve. I think the easiest way would be paypal even though I hate paypal for anything...

I have created an online store program. I created this after feedback from clients with many issues from the opensource carts available and happy feedback from my custom stores but people looking for a more affordable option.
It is not free - it has a low monthly fee but it includes tech support , free hosting and updates.
You do not need to have any technical knowledge to easily get your store up. I will constantly be updating it to make it more web 2.0 , social and to make it easy to do search engine optimization.

Custom features can be added for extra fees if needed.

You can see more about it on Get Online today and start to sell products online and sign up for a free trial.

Sign up with code warrior and I will give you 20% off.

If someone is interested in a JV oppurtunity to help me promote this then please PM me.

      Thanks,
      Esther

e-Junkie is primarily for digitally-sent products, but check it out to compare as well, I use them and love their system. It can be used with non-digital products just fine.

just about any of the carts mentioned will work.
Perhaps set up a test server and test a few of them out to find one that fits you best.
But there is more to having an online store than just having a shopping cart.
Will your CC processor allow online transactions or are you going to need a different merchant account? Are you familiar with SSL certificates? Are you familiar with being PCI compliant? They are starting to crack down hard on those that are not. With fines starting at $25K per violation.
I know a lot of people just set up and go. And many will tell you it is ok. But that can be dangerous and it seems like you have a lot to lose, like your brick and mortar. Just don't jump into it without knowing some of the facts. There is so much misinformation online that it becomes easy to find the answers that you "want", as opposed to the answers that are true.

    Good luck!

    Ken

  • The best cart for that would be magento you can create customized shopping carts as per the specific business needs with it so basically there's nothing you cant do with that platform.

I suggest Zen Cart. There are hundreds of shopping cart programs available, but none come close to offering the level of options, features and support available with Zen Cart.

I would strongly suggest zen cart or open cart. I own an eCommerce site and it's done in OpenCart. The backend interface is awesome and userfriendly.

Further if you want something easier yet powerful you can use wordpress with ecommerce themes.

+1 for magento. It is probably one of the best out there because it is really developed and has great support for invoicing, etc. One thing about magento though is that the extensions tend to be quite expensive. Also, it is quite resource intensive - recommend 500mb ram.

Example of the expense.. There is a module to integrate Magento with Quickbooks, but its costs $300!. So yeah I like magento but it might not be feasible for people who wish to get started with no money.

The normal web web host client support you might get probably will not help you with issues that come up with your purchasing island application. Instead, you will have to either determine it out on your own or get in touch with the designers of the program to get help with any issue.
