Could I ask why you want to learn HTML? I ask because there are very few areas in Internet Marketing where you need to be good at HTML.

    I'm just asking.

  • I would recommend learning both... HTML5 just adds a few more tags and features. Both are still HTML and 99% of what works in (x)HTML4 will also work in 5. If you are wanting to be a web developer you will also need to learn CSS and JavaScript for front-end work and a server side language like PHP.

    • At this moment i recommend you to learn only HTML4 and CSS, also you can learn Wordpress to manage big and medium sites.
  • HTML5 is the latest version of HTML and XHTML. It comes up with a number of features like drag and drop, multimedia, video playback, APIs, form control etc.
  • If you're going to do web building, you'll need to learn it all anyway. Just do the basics of HTML and CSS is the best way to start. You're also going to want to learn PHP too. Once you start getting into more advance features you will need to use XHMTL.
  • The differnce between 4 & 5 is literally about 30 operators. HTML5 will be pointless if you have no core understanding to begin with, however the simple fact of the matter is if you are not using the advanced operators (most dealing with embedding video, jquery actions, and silly styling stuff) then there is no difference...

Put it this way, each evolution of HTML just stacks new elements and capabilities on top of the old ones...You cant really do any of the advanced stuff that HTML5 brings to the table until you have your core knowledge up.

Truthfully as a seasoned designer, developer, jack of all electronic trades, you are probably more concerned with learning some of the advanced capabilities of CSS3, there are some BADASS styling capabilities that are intrinsic to CSS3 that you cant do without if you are building the GOOD stuff.

To edit a template with dreamweaver is not that big of a deal even for a noob...but that aint learnin HTML if you know what I mean!

Overall, HAVE FUN! If you are an IM dude chances are you can get away with tooling around on some templates and learning gradually just like the Pro's had to do, but there is no learning like doing my friend!

    Best of Luck!

    To Your Success,

    • Actually HTML 5 is advanced version with more features. Please don't get confused. Start learning from the beginning, don't think about 4 or 5. Once you'll be proficient in applying HTML can go for advanced features. It's really important for you to know CSS as well!
