Do I use Thematic..Weaver..Hybrid..TwentyTen or......

I've been working with WP for a little while so I know the differences between frames I've mentioned and themes like flexibility3, Mystique, etc. when it comes to user friendliness, point and click, etc.

My question is:

Am I missing something about using the frameworks and creating child themes to do what I want or is css and html a bit much for some.

Out of the box CAN anyone suggest themes that are head and shoulders above others in SEO out of the box.

I'm not opposed to purchasing themes BUT do enjoy using and testing the SO called non-premium themes. Typically the free user forums are better than the paid ones in my humble opinion.

I see a few well known warrior members using for instance flexibility3

I might add I'm starting an amazon review site with this question in mind.

  • one of my favorite free themes is Graphene and it is very easy to create child themes for it.
    give it a try, I think you'll like it.
  • Whatever you choose, DEFINITELY go for a child theme that has a framework. I idea is that you customize the living daylights out of the child, and so when the developer updates his/her theme, you just update the framework, not the child. So you get a great update without losing your hard work.
  • To that list I'd also add check out these: Thesis, Atahualpa, and Genesis.

    I agree about using a child theme, unless you're only making very very minor tweaks.
