SOLVED:help with WP cacheing

Hi,

Hostgator as once again disabled some of my sites for being resource hogs.
I am moving a lot of them to a VPS.

Having said that, I am looking for the best optimization and cacheing procedure for my blogs

I understand Google analytics tend to slow things down but which cacheing plugins are best. As anybody done a side by side test?

Wich other analytics should I use for maximum speed (don't mind paying , but need unlimited sites license)

I have used W3 cache...but not sure if I configured it properly

What is the definitive cache plugin or combination thereof?

  • The W3 cache plugin basically have 6 items you can set to cache.

    The ones that will be most important are:

    -Page Cache (it creates static html files of all your pages so it doesn't need to query the database)
    -Minify (it takes out whitespace from your JS and CSS files, can give you a slight speed boost)

    The other items listed are useful, especially the CDN option if you have an account with Amazon S3 or whatever it's called. But the Page Cache is the big one, that will eliminate 99% of your database queries, which is what sucks up resources with wordpress blogs.

    Great WSO, I have just bought a VPS from another host specificaly for autobloging

    I am keeping your offer under consideration as I am evaluating my needs, I have to confess I find it difficult to gage how much hosting is enough.
    All I know is that mt current reseller account with hostgator does not seem to fit my needs for the kind of sites I am creating. This is an area where I need to educate myself more thoroughly.

    • I use wordpress.com stats which you can install as a stand alone or through the jetpack plugin for wordpress

      It's hard to gauge how many resources you use unfortunately when you are a hosting client. A system admin can tell you how much ram and cpu cycles you use, but this information isn't readily available in cPanel and other control panels.

      For Analytics, I always vote for Google Analytics. They changed it several months ago so it runs pretty fast now.
