if it's just html you can just upload it to the folder you want it in via ftp (on hostgator) and then browse to that folder using your browser. if it's an actual wordpress theme you'll have to upload it to the themes folder and then change the theme in the wordpress control panel.

it's hard to tell without knowing what types of files you ahve but it'll be either one of those let me know if you need help

I am assuming that this is a theme for a Wordpress blog.

The download is usually in a zipped folder, so the first thing that you have to do is unzip it.

Next, you open the unzipped folder and inside it should be another folder named the theme name.

If you are installing in the root directory of your site, login to your site using your FTP client, browse to your home directory (usually "public_html") and upload your theme folder.

Once this is done, you have to login to your WP admin, look for "Appearance -> Themes" on your left navbar and click on it.

Once in the "Manage Themes" screen, scroll down the page and look for your newly uploaded theme and click on it.

A window will open showing the new theme, just click on "Activate (your theme name)" and you are done.

    I hope that this helps.

There is another way to do it though... I will post it next.

An easier way to upload a Wordpress theme once you download it to your computer is to upload the complete zipped file directly to your blog.

Login to your blog, go to "Appearance -> Themes" and click on it.

Once in the "Manage Themes" area, click on the tab at the top of the page named "Install Themes" and click on "Upload" just below the tab.

Browse to the location of the zipped file in your computer and upload it.

Once the zipped file is uploaded, go to the "Manage Themes" screen and follow the instructions given in the previous post to activate the theme.

In my opinion, this is a much quicker way to upload and install a theme that you previously downloaded to your computer.

Oops!... I should've waited before posting the second post.

If it is a static site, then you have to upload each file individually. If the download is in a zipped file, you will have to unzip it.

I see that you are getting help from "Azimov" so I will withdraw for now.

I will check back in a while and if you still need help, I will try to help you even though I am not familiar with "Hostgator".

i would pm you if i could but i only have like 4 posts so i cant,
but i have uploaded index.html and some photos but the only thing that is showing up on the site is the indexof / message. there are like 3 different types of themes in the folder. in the main folder it has themes for OSX and for windows then inside the folder there are more folders. one named DOC, Preview, PSD, theme, and a file called .DS_Store.

Im using hostgator and this is the first time i have tried to upload a template to a site. so im not really familiar with how this works.

are you uploading using the web upload or an ftp program, the web upload can sometimes time out on larger files. as far as i know there isn't a limit on individual file sizes on hostgator

You should install filezilla, if yu're timing out on large files through the web based FTP then it's probably the FTP program not the server. The first link in my sig has a section on installing and setting up FTP, it's the first thing in chapter 2.

If you uploaded the index.html to your root directory it should show up.

This might sound crazy but did you refresh your browser? You might be bringing up the cached (previous) page in your web browser.

Also, Firefox has a nifty FTP plug-in (Fire FTP) which works quite nicely.

    Hi Arob3

    1. First extract the zip file, if you haven't done so.

    2. Since this is a Wordpress theme, you need to upload the theme at the proper place. The correct directory path for you to upload the theme will be wp-content-->themes-->???
Upload the whole folder that you got inside the themes folder. For reference, you will also see a folder named "twentyten". That's the place where you'll upload all the themes in the future.

    3. After the files are uploaded completely via ftp, you need to go to your Wordpress dashboard (appearance-->themes) and activate the new theme.

I believe that this is a html file not a wordpress file. and the problem is that it will upload most of the files via filezilla then on some it says critical file transfer error, and when i try to upload them individually the file size is 0kb but the on the local machine side the file is 10000 or 40000 kb. is it because there isnt enough room in the directory?

Also i have reseller hosting if that may cause a problem

i would try to redownload the original files from themeforest if you can and check with hostgator if there is a limit on your space just to make sure

you could also try uploading to another directory on the server and then moving the files if they upload properly
