Where can I host an audio MP3 file to distribute to my list?

Hi guys,

I just finished creating my first audio give-away product in exchange for capturing email address on my squeeze page. I'm still quite new and am wondering:

A. Does anybody know the best way to distribute the audio file?
B. Can anybody recommend the usual way to distribute audio files to a list for free?
C. If so, where can I host this free of charge without ads, or is it better to host the file on my own server? (I currently only have a baby account at Hostgator)

I have an aweber account so I was thinking originally send them an email follow-up after they sign-up with the url of where the audio file is being hosted.

Any help I can get on this topic is much appreciated as always guys.

Happy holidays!!!

    Hi,

Just put it on your own site and give people the url of the mp3 to download.

    Hey Steve,

You could upload it to rapidspread.com for free. This way you don't have to worry about bandwidth. Hope this helps.

    Steve,

It's great that you've taken the time to create a file for a give away and I hope you do well with it.

You said in you create an MP3, well for the past 8 years or so MP3 have become the standard for delivering audio on the Internet, prior to that RaelAudio was the standard. Man did I have a big headache when it changed, I'm still converting CDs that were once on-line as RealAudio files. So my suggestion is use MP3 format to deliver the audio file. If you plan on allowing just a downloadable file you should consider the file size. You also need to think about your members connection speed, are they on dial-up, cable, or DSL. If they are on dial-up or cable I would keep the file as small as I could get it with out destroying the sound quality. If DSL go for quality as there download speed will be more consistant. Dial-up and cable are both shared networks and speed is dictated by the number of users on-line.

If your file isn't larger the 500k you could email it to the members, but if it's larger I would say give them a link to the file and/or a web page. Giving them a web page where they can download the file will also give you additional options. The web page allows you to track the results with counters, cookies, log files, and more. You could use a service such as 440music.com that would allow you to play the file, download the file for free, or sell the file if you so decided. Sites like 440music will keep count of the visitors, the streams, and downloads for you.

I don't know host gator so I can not talk about them specifically but hosting the file on your own site brings your visitors you where you have full control over what the see and do. Hosing on other sites you have to put up with there Bul-------. If you host it with 440Music you will send your visitor there and have the opportunity to capture our visitors attention. We also have an affiliates that I would encourage you to join if you decide to use 440Music for your distribution. If you create additional audio file you would only need to upload the file and send your members to the site.

You have a huge amount of option available to you for distributing your file so I recommend that you take your time investigating the options. Don't be in a rush to get it out just because you've completed the audio file.
