Do I have to use eCommerce?

Hey guys, here is my problem...

I am in the process of setting up a B2B service company (services include internet marketing, social media, etc) what I want to know is, will eCommerce be my best option. I have a WP site at the moment, and yes I know WP isn't meant to be used for eCommerce. What I was thinking was just setting up a PayPal button to all my services, but I want to have up-sells, down-sells, coupon codes and a referral program.

I originally thought this would only take a couple of hours to setup, it is now obvious that I am clueless in this sort of environment. (I really just want to do the marketing and not worry about anything else!)

Have any of you guys set up something like this in the past, I mean I kind of don't want to change from WP, just because of the easy setup, auto-blogging, and it been SEO friendly.

Thanks for your time

You do not need to abandon WP to achieve what you want. In fact, most of the sites you see here on WF are WordPress-based and have an ecommerce aspect to them.

Disagree with that given the flexibility and options available.

Nothing wrong with starting with exactly that model. Several sites use Paypal. Not only that, Paypal does allow you to redirect after payment to an URL of your choice - in other words, you upsell/downsell etc could be right there. Coupon codes can also be used, so look into that as well (google for tutorials on setting up paypal).

For what you are trying to achieve, this is a great setup. You can always expand into something more robust if your site takes off and making some real money.

    Hope that helps.

  • Based on my experience it's really kind of hard for wordpress if there is too much functionality needed. I strongly suggest for you to go for a proven and trusted ecommerce solution that is feature rich, flexible and robust and magento has all of that. It gives you total control over the look and functionality of your online store.

Wordpress is so flexible that you can do virtually everything and anything on it.

You don't need anything else - your on the right track.
