Well there are good things for each approach, one obviously requires ongoing labor, in updating the files, by FTP, the other is easier to update but can be difficult to manage in terms of customizations, due to how quickly the core files of wordpress changes.

You could go on like that all day long, with pros and cons,

But in the end, what really matters, is what you really want to do with your time and what you want to accomplish with your project.

Each method requires a certain amount of work and managing each also requires work, if you are comfortable with updating your file system every day and you are not worried about keeping up with your file system, (managing files, whole other subject) but if your ok with that then static can work for you, but if you want to have some advantages, and your not worried about having to custom design some of the programming then choose wordpress, there are literally tons of very cool plugins out there that can help, (and in some cases hurt) your efforts.

Either way, is good, it just really all depends on what you want to do and how you want to get to where you want to be.

You will find tons of threads here and in other places. Personally I chose WP and never looked back - I hardly had any reason to use HTML no matter what site I had to do. A HTML site can be also very good if made properly but it's much easier to set up a proper WP site than a proper HTML.

I started off with html, Kompozer and struggling my way through that because I didn't know better. Then I had a blog and an html site in parallel. Funny thing, really, because I tried to create some of the WP functionality in a very rudimentary way for my html site.

Eventually, I invested in a premium theme (Thesis) and stuck to WP. Now, I don't look back anymore. Everything I create is with WP and the Thesis theme because it's fast, sufficiently flexible for me even without knowing PHP and any other coding. And I don't have to worry about a number of aspects:

      • Creating a clean and easily readable look
      • SEO optimisation
      • Interacticvity
      • Customisation
      • Updating (which is a breeze)
I think these advantages more than balance the ultimate flexibility offered by html especially for those (like me) who don't take easily to coding of any sort.

      I hope this helps.

If you like total control over the nitty-gritty details then a manual website is the way to go.

Wordpress, 100%. I've used both, and can definitely vouch that Wordpress is a million times better, more intuitive, quicker, allowing of tons of plugins, features, and so much more that isn't possible without a huge amount of time or money when doing the website yourself (i.e. Dreamweaver).

you can't really compare the time involved into setting up a wordpress website or starting from scratch with a manual built website ... you're looking at 2 hours versus 2 days, whereas with wordpress you will have a content management system to quickly update the content versus a static / flyer website ...

Both are good, but depends on your needs. I have seen worpress site slow to load but they are good for blogs. If you want a landing page / information / lead generation my opinion is simple HTML site with PHP (if required) .
