Want to learn more about building website

Guys,

I know how to build website but only using Joomla and wordpress. I know how to setup them, but only basic setup, I don't know how to modify css or something. And I don't think I can make money just offering basic setup of Joomla and wordpress site. I registered as freelancer on guru.com, odesk.com, freelancer.com, but never found job that I'am able to do, all available jobs are too advanced for me.

So I decide to learn more. But I don't know where to start. What else I should learn?

Do you think Joomla and wordpress only is enough? Or should I learn other method to build website such as css, php, etc?

My goal is to make money by offering service to build website. After that I will learn how to optimize web for SEO.

Kindly share some thoughts.

    Yes, I think learning the essential skills is the best way to go - HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript & MySQL

    The most obvious place to start would be to learn those basic skills, the W3 Schools is the best resource on the Internet for that:

    W3Schools Online Web Tutorials

    After that learn HOW your Joomla & WordPress sites work "under the hood". Build a Joomla template and a WordPress theme. Then learn how to build applications, modules & plugins for those respective platforms. For that you can start with their websites, both platforms link to some excellent resources.

    And don't expect to learn all of this overnight, many people with this sort of expertise spend years perfecting their craft. These are the people who you will be competing with on the freelancer sites.

          I agree with you. I've been studying Lynda for about a year now. I've learned a lot from it. Their membership fees are very affordable.

    Getting HTML and CSS down is a good first step. After that just learn whatever intrests you and seems useful. PHP may be good or you could try to increase your expertise with Joomla and Wordpress. And I agree the guy two posts above, W3Schools is a great resource for HTML/CSS learning. Just a warning, it may take awhile before your skills can make you good money (but its worth it!).

    The main front is HTML, JS, CSS, etc.
    Main website back-end programs such as PHP, JSP,. NET
    I am a PHPER to experience the best personal with you, or you own a school, unless you have strong willpower to stick to it. Or very easy to give up halfway. Only practice while studying, to learn fast, and easy to remember.
    I suggest you first learn a foundation, then you can find a project or to start to find such work.

    First of you need to see that which Programming language you know, ASP. Php or something else.. you need to decide this and then start learning online.. there are ample number of resources available..
