Is it possible to edit .psd files( graphics) if you do not have Photoshop. I have some header graphics in .psd format, I want to edit these. Is there a cheaper simpler software package which be able to edit this? Basically I want to be able to use layers to change the text.

If I remember right, I think Paint Shop Pro (PSP) also does PSD files. It is a fairly good application and a lot cheaper than Photoshop.

I use Photoshop all the time, but I think fully loaded version of PSP is around $100. They used to always have a 30 day free trial also so you can go and check it out. Just google them and I am sure you will find it. Used to be a progam from jasc.com but companies change all the time.

    Hope that helps you out!

PhotoImpact (formerly of Ulead.com now owned by Corel) also allows you to work with PSD files. Like PaintShop Pro it is a lot less expensive than Photoshop with all the goodies. I've used it for over 10 years now since version 4
fyi, Corel also bought out Jasc who developed PaintShop Pro

Adobe Elements will cost is the same range as PSPro , GIMP is free, paint shop pro doesn't do true layer editing, plus it may mess up your PSD, so be sure to make a backup.
you can also get a trial version of photoshop if you need it short term
