Most Recent Post on a Static Page (Wordpress)

I currently have a static pages as my home page on my Wordpress site. I would like to add my most recent post (1 post) to my static home page.

I am not really sure how to go about doing this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If your theme has a footer or sidebar widget area you should use that and add a recent posts widget - set it to 1.
It might be needed to tinker with theme's css to make it look right.

In the latest default WP theme (2011) you have the option to do it by selecting for your front/home page the "showcase" Page template.

It depends on which theme you are using, if the theme supports such a purpose, then you can get it done easily, or else you will have to create a custom page for it.

  I am using twenty ten theme and have been editing it. My static page was hand written in css so it doesnt have any code that would make widgets work or anything.
