I'm trying to find the easiest shopping cart software that has quite a bit of features but is simple to customize and add content to. I've been using Zen cart but it seems a little too difficult to me. Any ecommerce sites that you can customize and add content to like Wordpress?

Thank you!

You can create a Wordpress website then install the WordPress › WordPress Simple Paypal Shopping Cart « WordPress Plugins plug-in. It works with a gallery plug-in that makes it so you can showcase your products in a gallery then customers can click each individual image and "add to cart"

I'll definitely look into that. As far as standalone shopping cart software, what is the easiest one to change, customize and add content to?

I personally think open source e-commerce like zen-cart, prestashop, oscommerce, nopcommerce are good. Use wordpress e-commerce plugins like they recommended or use Weebly and Wix but you'd have to pay them monthly and they are not as feature rich.

As strange as it seems, wordpress offers eCommerce solutions, they range from extremely easy to set up (Paypal shopping cart is actually a plugin) to something thats offers a wide range of cards and sales solutions.

Experiment and look around and you'll actually find some wordpress eccomerce templates which makes the whole ordeal a lot easier

With shopping carts you get what you pay for. I haven't used an open source shopping cart that wasn't buggy and/or lacking in features.

You've heard the expression "you have to spend money to make money" & that applies here. Luckily with ecommerce you don't have to spend much money & you can make really good money if you know what you're doing.

If you're serious about having an ecommerce store that generates a lot of sales and makes a good amount of profit each month, you should be researching what the best shopping cart is, not what the best FREE shopping cart is. Even though the better carts like bigcommerce, 3dcart, and Magento have monthly prices tags, they are WAY easier to set-up than most OS carts & have features that are going to help you grow your business faster. People usually try to save money by going with an open source solution, and then end up spending more because they have to pay graphic designers & programmers to get it to work the way they want it to.

As I mentioned above, if you are serious about making an ecommerce store work you should invest in a serious ecommerce platform. bigcommerce, 3dcart, and magento are all pretty good. Me & my team have also been developing our own shopping cart for the past 3 years and it's called Zulu Cart. It's in beta still, but it's pretty amazing. It features true 1-page checkout, 1-click order placement with suppliers, auto-updates, and simple template customization. You can fully customize the look & feel of your website from the admin panel with point & click selections. It's so simple it makes FrontPage seem complicated!

Again, even though you will pay $30-60 a month for one of the TOP shopping carts, it only takes the profit from 1 additional sale per month to cover that extra cost. With all the cool tools & features of a cutting edge shopping cart you should be able to generate far more than 1 additional sale per month.

I used http://www.zen-cart.com/ once. Thought it was okay. Although the websites plugin directory was a bit messy.

Wordpress probably would be the easiest. We use Adobe Business Catalyst. It's $60 a month and has a little bit of a learning curve but it has tons of features.

We started out with ProStores and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. It's just one bad experience after another with them.

Try OsCommerce shopping cart software. I have used OsCommerce for my ecommerce site and so far it works fine. OsCommerce is an open source shopping cart software you can download it for free.

You can use the free version from xt-commerce. It is a development from os-commerce.
There are many plugins for this shop system too.

Out of the open-source e-commerce options mentioned already, I would definitely go with PrestaShop. From a plug-and-sell perspective, nothing is easier. I had the software installed and ready to fill with my products in less than 15 minutes.

I just upgraded my PrestaShop to the latest version last night, and I had to come back to comment on it. The just came out with a new version a couple weeks ago that includes an autoupgrade module, so now a process that could take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour-plus depending on my level of customization can be completed in less than 5 minutes.

What keeps me coming back to PrestaShop is that every single release seems to make the process easier and easier
    .
Plus, their forums are extremely active, and I'm always able to get answers to my questions. It may take a day or two, but it's FREE. And that's very important for me.

Magento is the best but also is a pain to customize.

Ecommerce wordpress plugin is ok for the basics.

If you found a template you really like and don't need full shopping cart functions you could try inserting paypal buy now buttons.... very easy to do
