WP: Link To Pop-Up

I would like to have several short blurbs of copy on my homepage, with a link at the end of each.

Rather than having the link to another page/post, I would like it to create a POP-UP box, preferably centered on the page.

Ideally, the background would dim or blur.

And, ideally, I could use graphics or even video in the pop-up -- but I'd be ok with text only.

Each blurb would have a different pop-up box.

Anyone know of a plug-in or theme that would facilitate this?

If not, could you tell me what I'd need to do to make this happen?

Thanks very much

  • I don't know of a plugin that do all of what you're after, but you could look at jQuery Tools' Overlay:

    • Thanks JimBob ...

Went to your reference, at first glance it's a tad "Greek" to me. But I did read a reference there to Lightboxes, I wasn't familiar with this term as far as pop-ups go.

Found several lightbox plugins that "appear" to "maybe" do what I'm looking for ... ability to have several links on a page to lightbox popups while dimming the background (some allowing video). Costs range from $0 to $49 so far.

Though I may be missing something very fundamental (like, "that's not going to work idiot!"), I'll give one or two of them a try.

If that doesn't work, I'll try to learn some Greek.

      Thanks again
  • Hey if you could take a look at my plugin.. i guess it's exactly what you need (it's still in pre-launch but as you can notice it's high discounted atm)

Let me know if you need any help or have questions
  • I'm using WP Table Reloaded and would like to add links which open in a pop-up window. I installed the 'Simple Popup' plugin but there doesn't seem to be a way to use that method with the table.
  • I hate to be a ... hater... but, why are you doing this? Pop ups are never a good idea, especially when someone really is interested in reading your content. If you have to use a popup, you could try jQuery to facilitate what you're looking to do. You'd have to hard-code it into your template.
