Please Help A Newbie

hello

please i really need a hand. im trying to get my church website up but ive been unsuccessful largely because i lack the techie aspect of customizing wp

i bought a theme for this project but i just couldnt install. [its unlike many other one-click installation themes i have used before] having one error or another with this one.
can somebody help me out

pls im hoping to get a hand here. i really need it

      i wanted to upload the theme from the wp admin panel i could not. i got an error message [ i can remember anymore...] so i used my ftp to delete the theme so i could reinstall but right now im having a "Index of /
      cgi-bin/
      wp-admin/
      wp-content/
      wp-includes/

      and before this i could not upload images without the HTTP err 301 and at times HTTP error 404

      i think i might have messed everything up.

      pls help

    Have you tried to uninstall wordpress and then reinstall from Fantastico on C Panel.

    Then try to upload the theme again via WP Dashboard.

    Also, did you receive any additional info from the theme provider on installing? Like a "read me" file.

      yes i did, but i tried all instruction. but no luck yet

    I am just assuming that uninstalling Wordpress will help but obviously if you are worried than don't do it on your own.

    Is this a new domain? or do you have a lot of content already?

    Who is your host?

    If it is hostgator they have live chat and they will walk you through it step by step.

    I just had them do that a couple days ago for a different problem.

      No i dont use hostgator. i think i chose a wrong hosting comp. have been calling and sending email but i believe they are noob as i am

      Yes its a new domain. just trying to get it running. just putting up pages. no content yet.

    I agree hosting live chat will show you how it is done step by step.

    ....here is how I unistall/install Wordpress from Fantastico.

    Click on Fantastico from your C Panel.
    Click on Wordpress from the left panel.
    Click remove on the Wordpress Site you want to delete on the new page.

    Now go back and clickon Wordpress again from the left panel.
    This time choose "New Installation"
    Choose the domain you want to add from the scroll bar.
    Leave "Install in directory" blank - so your main domain will be your adress.
    Choose admin name and password.

    That should be all, hopefully it works.

    This is what you gotta do :

    Keep your existing wordpress (Just Hit on Upgrade button, you should find this option at Dashboard-->Update)

    Now go to Appearance --> Theme and delete your existing theme.

    Now grab your FTP details from your hosting account, you should be able to find in your CPanel. Use free clients like Filezilla or browser based FTP like FireFTP.

    Now login to your account via FTP and go to public_html-->wp-contents-->Themes (I am assuming you have installed your wordpress in the root folder)

    Now Grab your theme (Make sure you unzip it in your PC first) Drag the complete folder and drop the folder in theme folder of FTP which you opened earlier. Wait for the upload to be completed !!

    Once the uploading is done, Go to wordpress backend once again then Appearance-->Themes-->Activate your Theme

    Things should work fine then
