Being a designer for the last 8 years or so - I've always found it a great way to check out the gallery sites and things that for designs.

Dribbble - What are you working on? ( invite only designer community )
Forrst is a community for developers and designers - Forrst ( invice only designer / coder community )
RookieDraftt - What are you working on? ( open to all designers )
I spend hours a day browsing over the work, and alot of these designs work at the top level of our industry, such as apple / gowalla / facebook to mention a few.
For me its a great way to see what teh trends are and way things are moving too, so im always keeping up with the right minded people.
