dreamweaver and frontpage often arent compatible with mobiles with different resolution size, been using wordpress now as there is a mobile plugin for it however:

- should i make a new site with just basic information on, which wouldn't be able to have a useful domain name? or
- is there a way of changing something on the site to make compatible with all mobiles?

I would recommend the WordPress route in most cases. So, no matter what your site will be at least somewhat compatible with mobiles. If you truly want to be mobile friendly you can setup a completely new site using a mobile theme and then use a redirector from your main site. I know redirect plugins exist for WP. If your site isn't WP you would have to code a custom redirect system yourself or see if there is some other plugin out there.

I don't have any mobile templates to recommend but there a bunch of them out there. Personally, all of my sites are WordPress based and many mobile users are fine using my sites in this fashion. You can also install extra plugins to make the experience even better.
