Is There Any Way to Get the Background Graphic to Show in IE?

Hi all, well l have pretty much given up on finding a viable way to get my background graphic to show in IE, apart from just putting up some text saying "if you are using IE, refresh your page?"
This is the code that l am using...
And l have found some code online that refreshes the page by itself, but unfortunately it doesn't get the background graphic to show up.
It seems that hitting the refresh button is the only way to get this pesky browser to behave!
Detailed instructions on how to fix this on IE, isn't viable as l am creating a product on a website, (Hostgator) so giving visitors complex instructions on how to fix this isn't an option.
It would be wonderful if someone out there had some code that could mimic the refresh button on IE, so it would automatically fix this issue on loading the page, or the next best thing.
Appreciate any feedback..
