Can someone help me with designing a Wordpress blog?

I'm a complete noobie and I have no idea what I'm doing right now but I learn better through experience then through textbooks. If someone could please help me get started or point me to the right group of people to ask for help, then I would be much obliged.

I have an idea for a website design in mind already. I'm just having a really difficult time finding the right buttons to do the right things.

    Start by making it simple so you can at least say you have a website up then when you get more experience you can start re-designing your site. Try and find some Youtube videos to watch you can learn from some of them

    browse the templates that are free, then browse the templates that are for sale. Find something you like. You do NOT need to design your blog... it's been done. You need to figure out what purpose you have for blogging and learn as much as you can about your target audience.

    If you have the right content the design doesn't make much difference.

    If you want to learn what buttons to push... go to WordPress.org and read the Document/Help files. No one can do that for you.

    Have you managed to get a domain, hosting, and install wordpress successfully to your site yet?

    If not, there are loads of instructions online to get yourself started, it is fairly straight forward.

    Then you just need to find a theme and install it to your wrdpress site.

    You can muck around with HTML in the appearance editor but the main thing to do when you're new is just get the site online and functional.

    Sort out the design later.

    Is it okay if I use the free link wordpress provides? (name.wordpress.com) I don't have any money to spare for hosting or domain names. I chose wordpress because I thought it was the better choice over weebly or squidoo lenses.

    You can NOT modify the design on wordpress.com. Period.

    Ask your design question again when you'll have your own domain, your hosting and your own WP installation on it.
