Pages vs Posts - WordPress

I'm new to wordpress. After building almost my entire site on pages, I went back and read my seo recipe that said only very basic pages should be pages. Contact, about us, disclaimer & privacy policy are the only ones that should be pages. The rest should be posts.

How are posts and pages different and how will the posts interact with the pages?

  • Hi,

I would suggest that if you are following a system that you follow it exactly until you know enough to be able to tweak and improve.

Basically, pages will be in the main navigation across the entire site and are regarded as static, whereas posts are time stamped and organized into year, month archives as well as categories which can be shaped into "silos" for better seo organization.
  • Pages are no different than posts in terms of SEO. The thing is that pages end up in the site-wide navigation in most Wordpress templates and that's why they get more link juice from your own site.
  • Why not use a mix ? Not necessarily to go only with one option, pages or posts, go with both.
  • Where do the posts show up? If I decide to make some of my more informative pages into posts, how will people find them from the site?
