wordpress category page plugin or theme

I'm looking for a plugin that will let me create category pages - like the thesis theme - here is the page that explains it properly:

What I need is for the category page to have a content area at the top.

I've tried searching - but I just can't find what I need. I've found explanation of how I can do it if I want to start coding - but I really don't (my head would probably explode) and if I changed my theme all my coding work would fail.

Ideas anyone?

Plugins for preference - simple themes would be OK (I like the look of thesis - but I've just learned to get along with wordpress I'm not ready for learning thesis too!)

I think this plugin does what you're looking for:

WordPress › List category posts « WordPress Plugins

Basically, you insert a shortcode into your page and it will list out the posts from the specified category. You can control how much of the post data is displayed, like title, author info, date, and content.

There's also this plugin, which I've personally used and can verify works, but it hasn't been updated in a long time:

Try this one "Table of Contents Creator" . It is very flexible for category page.
