Hi,

I want to make a website for freeware stuff and manage it in different blocks like on filehippo.com . Please help me choosing the right CMS to manage and categorize my freeware collection.

Thanks

Hmmmm... I think if you're wanting the same functionality you would be wise to use Drupal for this. Although, in my opinion you could probably have something comparable in Joomla and wordpress. I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing this in wordpress, but if that is the only CMS you use then it IS possible. For this, go with what you're most comfortable with!

Just use TurdPress. That's what everyone here is going to tell you.

        Well it's true!

Any time somebody asks what is the best CMS to use for anything, the hivemind here overwhelmingly answers "Wordpress" (mainly because they don't know any better).

LOL Then, and why not, what's the problem?

While I agree it is not the solution to everything, it will do for the majority of work required by most of the folks in this forum.

It is a matter of RAP and cost, that's it, nothing else! Not necessarily because one doesn't know any better.

Drupal. If the learning curve is too great, hire someone.

You can hire some one to write a plugin in Joomla or WP. If you are looking for a good seo, then you gotta do this. The plugin you create can also be sold. so dual benefits

If you hope your site gonna get big in the future build it with Drupal. Almost all huge sites with bulky databases and thousands upon thousands pages use Drupal.

If I were to develop a website like yours with a CMS, it'd be on Wordpress and have custom post types to handle the freeware stuff. You can have categories, tags and etc. The learning curve won't be that steep and there are lots of people who can help you out with your problems over the internet, specially here on WF.

Here is a twist on the previously asked question. I've had a site for a not-yet-launched first product. It's extremely simple....six pages. I don't anticipate it getting much more complex. Heck, with cloned pages, etc., it could end up being 15 or so pages.

I took a local (SF Area) Internet Marketing course a couple of years ago and the instructor put us all on Drupal sites hosted by his vendor in Canada. It's been OK, but in every subsequent course I've taken, they standardize on Wordpress, talk about Wordpress add-ins, etc. I have a personal blog on Wordpress.com and from a non-tech end user perspective find the UX easier to deal with and the choice of themes far more comprehensive.

My predicament is migration. Even though I'll only have to move a few pages, I'll have to deal with changing hosting providers, moving a URL, dealing with AWeber for forms, etc. But I really haven't gotten off the ground yet.

So, should I suck it up and generate some business with my Drupal site, or make the move now? I work full-time and do A-OK. Money is not an issue if it's 'contained.' Excessive time investment on my end (i.e., greater than 20 hours) IS an issue. Thoughts? Again, sorry about the topic hi-jack. Thanks!
