What's the best way to add html to a WP site using a WYSIWIG editor?

The built-in editor doesn't behave well for simple things like aligning text or changing font size.

Any easy-to-use and versatile suggestions?

You can do those things using the WordPress visual editor quite easily.
Have you upgraded to WordPress 2.7?
If not I highly recommend you do because I believe the editor behaves better in this version. I don't use the visual editor myself because I hand code everything in XHTML/CSS.

The WordPress developers have just released WordPress.tv, a visual resource with tutorials for learning about WordPress and how to do stuff. It's awesome!

I have 2.7 only one my (one) latest blog - all the old ones are 2.somethingelse.

I'll have a try and see if it's any better with 2.7 - thanks for the tip!

The other option is to add a plugin which provides further editor functionality.

I just did a quick search of the Wordpress plugin directory and found WordPress › TinyMCE Advanced WordPress Plugins. There's no doubt countless other options.

Thanks Jonathan - I found a plugin called FCKEditor - much better than before.
